Don’t even know where to start with this about me stuff so here goes . . . .
Growing up I listened to a variety of music, mainly RnB and Hip-Hop. Artists such as Jodeci, H-Town, SWV, Keith Sweat, Blackstreet, R.Kelly, Whitney Houston, Mary J Blige, NWA, Public Enemy, Big Daddy Kane, De La Soul . . . . . too many to mention!!!!!
Round about 1994 like most people around that time I started to listen to Jungle, it was all about 100% Jungle Hits, if ya don’t know, then ask somebody!!! It was the mixture of heavy basslines, silky vocals and ragga influence that made Jungle music stand out.
After leaving school I moved on to college where I was into my Hip-Hop music hard!!!! Redman, Method Man, Wu-Tang, EPMD, Big Pun, Notorious B.I.G, Craig Mack, Nas, Jay-Z . . . again far too many to mention!!!!
I didn’t last long at college, I just wanted to earn some money and do the things that make me happy but I persevered and decided to go back to 6th form college, All Saints High School Brap Brap!!!!!! That lasted less than a year so I got a part-time job at the local Footlocker wid my boyz L-Dizzle, Barlow & Dirty Row.
We would go out on a weekend but there was one particular club called the Pepper House where the DJ would play SPEED GARAGE!!!!
Spin Spin Suger (Armand Van Helden), RIP Groove (Double 99), Tina Moore, World Go Round (Sandy B), Let Me Be Your Fantasy (Baby D) . . This is where it all started . . . . . . .
Later that year I discovered UKG, Huddersfield hosted some of the biggest nights in the country, FEVERS, WHIPPS & WALPOLE CRICKET CLUB featured the biggest Dj’s and Mc’s in the country and brought them out of London up to the North : Dreem Teem, Norris Da Boss, PSG, DT, Lipton, Andy Ward . . . .
One man responsible for this was ANDY JAY, Huddersfield born and bred with his finger on the pulse!!!!
I linked up with Andy Jay back in 1998, he worked at 4th Wave Records so it was an ideal scenario for me in terms of getting new music etc.
Myself and L-Dizzle bought some belt drive turntables and a cheap ass mixer then started to buy up vinyl in a big way.
There was no turning back, I started to play at parties and dances in Huddersfield + surriunding areas until I hooked up with 7 Wonders (Brynner, Andy Jay, Handz, Moon), Brownsuga (Solid C, Eddie Down, Andy, Peter) and Erotica (Kunta, 8 Ball, Marcel) all these were BIG influences and made me more determined to make it big.
My first big break came in the Boiler House, Bradford in 1999 where played a 2 hour set along side the legendary MC Neat (Red Rose Records) from there I played at major events all around the country which include, Twice as Nice, Garage Nation, Erotica, 7 Wonders, Slip n Slide, Bounce, Gossip, Harmony and many more . . . .
