Roberto Masini and Simona Costantino, who were born and then married in Massa (Tuscany-IT), studied and graduated classical guitar with Flavio Cucchi at the Istituto "P.Mascagni" in Livorno. They subsequently studied with Betho Davezac, Leo Brouwer and at the "Accademia Musicale Chigiana" in Siena with Oscar Ghiglia, gaining the Diploma di Merito as guitar duo. Although from 1990 they usually appear as a duo both in Italy and abroad, Masini and Costantino also performed as soloists and collaborated with various chamber groups. They appeared with the Satu Mare Orchestra (Romania) and the “F. Liszt Academy†Orchestra (Debrecen-Hungary) performing concertos for solo guitar and two guitars, including the performance of P.Petit's Concerto and the Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Concerto for two guitars. They have worked with Brouwer's guitar orchestra, the Ensemble Ricercare-guitar Symphonietta of Florence, taking part in television broadcasts for RAI 1, and with whom they have recorded a CD for the label “Giulia Records†(Milano) which has received favourable reviews in the music press (“CD Classica,â€Il Fronimo†and others). For the label "Il Bagatto" they have recorded "Odi et amo", a collection of poems and music by the composer Claudio Vaira. The Duo Masini-Costantino often collaborate with composers in order to create new works for the guitar.
They have been also invited to perform for the “III World Guitar Festival†in Cagliari (Sardinia) and on august 2002 they gave in Massa the first performance of the Concert for guitar duo and orchestra written by the italian composer Oliviero Lacagnina.Simona and Roberto played music of different historical ages (from Renaissance to Contemporary era) but in the last years they dedicated themselves with passion to the repertoire of the great composer and musician Astor Piazzolla and to the latin-american area.
They are the promoters of musical activities like the “Scuola Comunale di Musicaâ€, the summer festival “Festival Sinfonico Estivo†and the “Festival of Guitar†that takes place in their town from the year 2001.They teach at the Scuola Comunale di Musica and Master Classes di Musica Estive in Massa and at the “Istituto Musicale Citt.. di Carraraâ€.
They play two guitars of the Florentin lute-maker Andrea Tacchi.
