Luna Nueva ~ 1930’s Tex-Mex, covering Lydia Mendoza and the classic music of South Texas with Gilberto Reyes. She sings in the dueto style with Gilberto- boleros, rancheras, & cumbias
"I just finished recording a new CD with Luna Nueva! ~a project that explores classic Conjunto and South Texas songs from the early days. Lately, I have been so inspired by the women of the 1920's and 1930's from this region- especially Lydia Mendoza to whom the a album is dedicated. Imagine pursuing music with the demands and cultural biases in that day!!
Lydia's voice and style was passionate and the music feels to me like American Blues or Portugeese Fado- from the heart.
"Sigue Adelante" is one song on this album that Lydia recording in the 20's. This album celebrates the legends of early Tex-Mex (even before the accordion!) I had so much fun arranging some of these pieces- for accordion, violin. I sang in the early dueto style on most of the songs with Gilberto Reyes (accordion, bajo sexto), and numerous special guests, including Santiago Jimenez, JR. Check it out! www.myspace.com/lalunanueva.
Tara's last CD “Fool’s Journeyâ€- took her from the world of power pop into jazzy-blues & Cali-Lounge, and her first songs written for accordion. She played bass, accordion, guitar, percussion, and keyboards, with guest musicians Kent Lacin, Henri Ducharme, political rapper IronSheik, guitarist Lucio Menegon and bassist Alan Korn.
