About Me

“I’ve tried all my life,
now it’s time,
my moment sinks to the well.
Grant me your border.”

Thomas Denver Jonsson's third solo album continues his indie/folk journey combining the Americana vein with a high dose of Swedish temperament. He has previously released the two well-received albums featuring collaborations with Rosie Thomas, Damien Jurado, Nina Kinert and Ned Oldham. The new album is his most original and complex material to date spanning solo guitar instrumentals and band oriented indie rock to dark folk tunes, quiet hymns and soulful Americana. The producer Carl Edlom has put rich arrangements to Thomas's close songs and words and there are duets with Jennie Stearns, Ellinor Blixt (of Bobby Baby) and Elina Johansson (Dear Euphoria). With this new string of songs Thomas puts himself closer to contemporary folk artists such as South San Gabriel, My Morning Jacket, M. Ward, Bright Eyes and Cat Power rather than the classical songsmiths to whom he's previously been compared.
After 300 shows in 15 countries, Thomas has become an experienced traveller, stops includes SXSW (Austin,US), Barfly (London, UK), Paradiso (Amerdam, NL), Södra Teatern (Stockholm, SE), Debaser (Stockholm, SE), Mejeriet (Lund, SE), Arvika Festival (Arvika, SE), Storsjöyran (Östersund, SE), Sintetika (Florence, IT), Arena (Vienna, AT), KULT (Varazdin, HR) and Riga New Theatre (Riga, LV). He is currently finishing the second album of A Perfect Friend (Timber and Modern Ways) and have written the very last parts of the next solo album (working title: Arctic pt.1).

PRESS QUOTES:
4/5
"In a crowded marketplace, this album stands out"
- Simon Cosyns, The Sun (UK)
"He makes much of his kinship with Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Bright Eyes
and Cat Power, but I actually find him more appealing than all of them
/.../ Americans? What do we need them for exactly?"
- Rob Fitzpatrick, The Word (UK)
"Yes, Neil Young is traceable in his voice and in some of his
melodies, but really this is the fuzzy introspection of M Ward and
his ilk: quiet choogling in the face of a stand-offish, underwhelming nature."
- The Independent (UK)
"Love Campaign"'s lonesome plunk of guitar and strings is
just lovely, as is "Only For Beginners" /.../ Friends of
The National will find a kindred soul here"
- UNCUT (UK)
"If you're a fan of The National, even Bonnie "prince" Billy or M. Ward,
it's most likely this is something for you"
- Brain Surgery, BBC6 music (UK)
"The magic it creates could happen nowhere else"
- Michael Mee, Americana UK (UK)
8/10
"Pedal steel bonanza! /.../ A low-key jewel"
- Rock Sound Magazine (UK)
"..makes it tingle in the fingers of a happy music journalist. Songs like My Wardrobe, Only For Beginners, One of My Blessings, You Were The Holiday and She Runs in Slow Motion, aims so high I must catch my breath afterwards."
- ABC Nyheter (N)
"Neil Young's more introspective spirit is also referenced in the 14 tracks,
but it is Jonsson's Swedish fellow countryman, the director Ingmar Bergman,
who comes most to mind in these delicate reflections on light and shade
(The Border and Like Friends Falling in Love)"
- Joe Breen, The Irish Times (The Ticket) (IE)
On Staff's Playlist
- American Songwriter Magazine (Jan/Feb'08)
"His best album this far" / One of the best Swedish albums 2007
