About Me

Hello.
I’m bass player from Melbourne Australia now living in Zurich, Switzerland. A lot of musicians have their own website but I don’t. So here’s my bio with as much info as I can think of:
I was born in Santiago, Chile but I moved to Melbourne together with my mum and two older brothers. We were ‘political refugees’ at a time when they were still welcome in Australia. My brothers, Miguel and Juan, are also musicians and I grew up listening to whatever they were listening to, which luckily for me, was a whole lot of different things (see my influences).
After playing a bit of drums and experimenting on a few other instruments I finally settled for alto sax when I was 16. I continued to play it all through high school.
At 18, I switched to (electric) bass and pretty quickly began gigging - both live and in the studio - in a bunch of different styles, such as flamenco, Latin (Cuban & Brazilian), rock and a bit of blues but particularly jazz and funk.
In 1993 I auditioned at the Victorian College of The Arts and subsequently studied music there for two years.
In the year 2000 I finally realized a long time dream and started playing double bass.
Since January 2007 I’ve been living in Zurich.
I’ve toured and performed with (mostly artists from Australia) Men At Work, Jenny Morris, Joey Baatan, Jamie Oehlers, Sam Keevers, Ian Chaplin, James Muller, Bernie McGann, Scott Tinkler, Paul Grabowsky, Joe Chindamo, Julien Wilson, Steve Magnusson, Steve Grant, Mark Fitzgibbon, Simon Barker, Andrew Gander, Richard Tedesco and Doug De Vries as well as Gary Pinto, Daniel Merriweather, Alison Wedding, Nina Ferro and Nichaud Fitzgibbon. I also played with Bardot and mimed with Ricky Martin on his ‘Jaleo’ Australian tour.
I am (was up until my relocation to Switzerland) a member of the Paul Williamson Quintet; Sam Keevers Nonet; Blowfish; Jamie Oehlers Quintet; Los Cabrones; and I co-lead Australia’s premier Afro-Cuban ensemble, Rumberos.
I’ve also gigged at the Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland); Edinburgh Jazz Festival 2004 and the Edinburgh Fringe 2006 & 2007 (Scotland); Galway Arts Festival 2004 and Galway Jazz Festival 2005 (Ireland); Manila Jazz Festival (Philippines); Brecon Jazz Festival (Wales); Jambalaya Music Festival (New Zealand); Malta International Jazz & Rock Festival (Valetta, Malta); Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club (London); Southbridge Jazz Club (Singapore); The World Expo 2005 (Japan); Salvador International Music Festival (Brazil); Theatre Spektakel Festival (Switzerland); Millenium Celebrations (Hong Kong); Live En Aout Festival (New Caledonia); the Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney Festivals; Womadelaide; Woodford Festival; Bellingen Festival; Melbourne Jazz Festival; Wangaratta Jazz Festival; North Coast Jazz Festival; Apollo Bay Festival; Queenscliff Music Festival; Melbourne & Adelaide Fringe Festivals and the Byron Bay Festival as well as gigs in China, Argentina, the US, Peru, Spain, Colombia and the Dominican Republic.
To date, my compositions, arranging and bass playing feature in over 100 albums. Before I left Oz I was also doing a bit of teaching at Monash University, Melbourne.
