Chris Brooker

Officially The People's Champion Of Penguin Racing.

About Me

Sane, well balanced and only on minimal medication. Like most normal people the main thrust of my life is the need to have rooms full of strangers love me. As any Jongleurs audience member would tell you, I do this completely on the fly and any comedian that writes material beforehand is clearly cheating and has no business being on stage. I also love hecklers that just want to help, especially when they say "Carry on... You're alright." as faint and slightly damning approval makes my night.
Despite this opening salvo I'm not a bitter man.

Oh look, here are lots of pictures of me.
..

See? I'm dead funny. If you can book me then book me now while I'm relatively affordable.

My Interests

Comedy. I'm fairly sure I used to like other things but I can't remember anymore...

I'd like to meet:

A sell out audience hanging on my every word, preferably at XS Malarkey when I go back each year on my birthday to play the place because I love it so much. Cause, you know, by that point I'll only be playing the smaller clubs as a favour. ;-)Oh and whichever genius wrote the following scene containing the finest use of swearing in TV history.

Music:

Yes, I like music. Apparently it makes the people come together. Well, if you believe Madonna. She lost my trust with that whole express yourself debacle. I did and look where it got me?

Movies:

The Blues Brothers is brilliant. Blues Brothers 2000 is an insult...

Television:

Don't watch a lot of TV. Celebrity Garden Makeover Wife Challenge Swap? Bollocks more like.

Books:

John Irving's books are great. I also recommend Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. See, the apocalypse can be funny.

Heroes:

I've decided to start being other people's hero for a change. Not in such an obtuse manner that I have to wear my underwear on the outside mind. The people that have changed me for the better know who they are. I'm thankful for you every day of my life.

My Blog

Facts.

There's one thing you're guaranteed to get a lot of if you're a comedian. It's not money, respect or hot and cold running groupies, although some, all or none of those can happen if you play your card...

Grounded.

Life has a rather intriguing way to maintain it's balance. So intriguing that it's actually spawned a whole raftload of cliches to try and best describe it's pendulum like motion. "Life has it's ups a...

Reality.

(Might want to do this in a couple of sittings...) Back to life... Back to reality... Back to the here and now. Yeah. Uhuh, a world of music out there and I can't help but find myself dragged into cli...

Shattered.

I had every intention of blogging when I got back tonight but I am utterly wiped out. A combination of the last vestiges of jetlag and a really, really tough gig have pretty much double teamed to wipe...

Hiatus.

Well, that's that. I sit at the dining room table of the Pyette residence in a slightly hungover world that tastes strongly of root beer.  Today's blog is a perfunctory affair at best, something ...

Two!

Yesterday was sheer, unadulterated fun from start to finish. I pottered around the home of Mr Randall Reese in Buffalo, N.Y. while he was off attending the funeral of a comic in relatively nearby Roch...

Camelot.

On Thursday night at the open mic night after I went to the Yuk Yuk's heat I noticed a real difference between the acts that had competed and the ones that hadn't. The acts that hadn't had their ...

Tea.

I'm something a glass half full person which makes me either positive or a simpleton depending on your point of view. I'm generally driven to find the good in any given situation which can lead me to ...

Dodgy.

The traffic in downtown Toronto is much like the traffic in any modern settlement with more than a thousand residents. The rush hour starts in the late afternoon and continues on into the early evenin...

Token.

I experienced a token gesture today. This wasn’t your run of the mill token gesture though. Generally the phrase token gesture denotes an act driven by a begrudging sense of duty rather than mor...
