There are several things that I love in my life and could not live without: music, writing, hockey, and my friends (sorry for the cliche here). I play guitar and bass, and I love everything that has to do with music (see below for more). I love playing hockey, but now I'm currently coaching, and this has been one of the most fulfilling undertakings I've ever been a part of. I'm also a certified high school English teacher, and hope to make a career out of education, but it seems lately that the Fates have been pulling me in other directions. So be it, that's the nature of life.
Writing is another passion of mine, and you have to admitt, "Published Author" would be a really great thing to add to a resume, don't you think? Sometimes, I indulge in some of life's dorkier pursuits video game, board games, and D&D, but that's all part of me. Being around people I love is something that completes me. I enjoy affectionate people, whether they be friends or more. Storytelling of any kind is something that facsinates me to no end, whether it's movies, books or whatever. Sometimes, fiction can show use the truths of our own reality better than anything else. I try to be a student of life, because along with all the crap and hatred and ugliness that this world holds, there's also more beauty than we can ever possibly imagine, and I want to know ALL of it.
Cool people. Fun people. Different people. Weird people. Strange people. Deep people. Music lovers. Anyone with a grasp on themselves. REAL PEOPLE.
Oh, and maybe a girl who can put up with a dorky music man ;-)
Music is a natural extension of life. Life is created, seemingly from nothingness, and can go in any direction our hearts and minds will it to go. Music is the same way, the ultimate artistic representation of our lifeforce. To me, music is a drug, no, more than that...an element of my very existence. As Nietzsche said, "Without music, life would be a mistake."
Therefore, I love metal, goth, electronic, new wave, folk, classical, classic rock, you name it.
RoJoe, Life of Agony, Alice in Chains, Saigon Kick, the Tea Party, Rhea's Obsession, Better Than Ezra, Critical Mind, Paradise Lost, Tori Amos, Tapping the Vein, Carfax Abbey, E-Town Concrete, Dry Kill Logic, Isis, Tool, Dream Theater, Soilwork, In Flames, Queensryche, old HIM (before MTV killed them), The Cruxshadows, Mudvayne, Pantera, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Dresden Dolls, NIN, Bloodsimple, Killswitch Engage, The Birthday Massacre, dredg, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, 311, The Beastie Boys, Collective Soul, Nirvana, Peter Murphy, Echo and the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, Jewel, Sarah MacLachlan, Wolfsheim, The Smiths, Morrissey, Live, VAST, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Keith Caputo, THE CURE, Disturbed, Slayer, Zakk Wylde, Biohazard, In Extremo, The Smashing Pumpkins, Silverchair, The Sisters of Mercy, 30 Seconds to Mars, Faith and the Muse, Dead Can Dance, Taproot, Type O Negative, Johnny Cash and I'm sure I'm leaving out a lot of stuff that I really adore, but oh well. Just ask me if I'm into it...odds are I am!
Almost Famous is my all time favorite movie, but I'm into just about anything. American Beauty, Kill Bill Vol. 1 and 2, Braveheart, A.I., Platoon, The Crow, Pitch Black, Dark City, Boondock Saints, Lost in Translation, Star Wars (OK, any of them...), Asian horror films, and a whole bunch more...again, ask...
Lost, Heroes, and Battlestar Galactica most recently (ready storytelling...) Buffy and Angel are also favorites of mine, and does anyone remember Space: Above and Beyond? Firefly is incredible too, although I got into that after it was off the air. Other than that, Sci Fi channel, Comedy Central, or a hockey game.
Almost anything Sci Fi/Fantasy or horror, but I'm very open. My absolute favorite book of all time is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. I've read it many times, and each time I gain a new level of understanding from it. It's one of those works of fiction that really tells us about our reality, and shows a brutally honest, beautiful depiction of life through the eyes of a child. Some of my favorite authors are Neil Gaiman, Caitlin R. Kiernan, Poppy Z. Brite, Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Catherynne M. Valente, and or course, the almighty Poe.
Anyone who stands up for themselves and what they believe in.
