Oz in Exile

I get crazy on the trampoline.

About Me

Ah, Spring. It's finally here after many delays and an extended winter season. March was a blur of grey days and cold nights. April seemed poised to offer more of the same, inspiring expletives that I won't repeat here. Am I modest? Perhaps. But I prefer my words to have meaning, not just fill up the space on a page. I am a wordsmith and my work must be done well. Otherwise, why do it at all?

But I digress. I find I am restless. The long winter hibernation is over and it's time to move, to explore, to clean out the old things. The warm weather inspires me to do things now, before the sweltering summer months arrive, weighing on all things like a heavy hand. Still, the winter malais hangs about - it would have me huddle for warmth, rather than rise up to the sunlight. Time to throw off the old blankets! Pack them in mothballs until the Autumn leaves fall thick and heavy. Even then, I might keep them away, out of defiance if nothing else.
In the past, I believed that simple things could define me: a list of preferences, associations, etc. That is not so. While it is true that I am a man of simple things, these 'things' come together in complex, even contradictory ways. I am often conflicted (unsurprising for someone born on the cusp of Pisces and Aries - a sign of water and of fire). But I work to see past these conflicts, to find a clear path. I am a pathfinder, you see; I am a puzzle master who has yet to find the pieces of his life. But I'm always looking.
My friends are few, but each one dear to me. I do not make friends easily. This does not mean I'm not friendly, quite the contrary; I have acquaintances by the dozen. But these are not the close connections that I crave. My friendship is not offered lightly. Trust, loyalty, commitment - these are not just words to me. They are very real and form my foundation.
I made my myspace layout using Pimp-My-Profile.com

My Interests

I'm a writer and a reader. I'm always on the look out for new literature and new readers. In my younger years, I enjoyed working out as something to do. Now I do it so I can keep up with my job and not get injured. Slowly but surely though, I am starting to enjoy it again. Finally, yes - I am a comic book geek. I've even got a badge somewhere to prove it.

I'd like to meet:

I'm attracted to the creative impulse. I gravitate towards the artistic and unusual. So far on MySpace, I've made contact with a number of bands, comedians and artists. This I enjoy. I've also stayed in touch with friends from across the nation. This too has value. But most surprisingly, I've made friends here as well. This was unexpected because I prefer face-to-face interaction. My online friends have somehow crossed the boundary of 'acquaintance', although I will probably never meet them in person. This was startling, but not in an unpleasant way. I now look forward to what other surprises are waiting in that vast, hundreds of millions membership. If I contact you, then I find you interesting in some way and want to get to know you. But I feel it's important to mention here that I don't people collect. If we've been 'friends' for a while, but there's been no contact, no interaction between us, then I will have to bid you a fond 'adieu'.
Love. Ah, love. Is it possible online? I think not. But as I mentioned before, I have been surprised in the past. What are my romantic interests? Well, that's a complex question involving charts, graphs...maybe an easel. But all that breaks down to one thing really: a partner. Someone to share this wonderful life with. Yes, that would do quite nicely.

Music:

I've enjoyed the 'garage band' style of music for some time now. I have many friends who are in local bands and playing bar to bar. If you're a new band starting out, then contact me! I'll give you a listen and if I like ya, then we'll be friends on MySpace. I'll even go so far as to recommend you to others.

Movies:

Ah, this is a passion of mine. Probably easiest just to refer to my Netflix list (contact me and we can be friends there too!) than pile on the movie titles here.

Television:

Not too much into the television anymore. I rarely have time to watch a show throughout it's entirety during a season and I really hate 'jumping in' mid-stream. I do have a growing DVD collection of T.V. shows though, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Futurama, The Ben Stiller Show, House and now Deadwood.

Books:

Another 'passion' section for me. Since I was an English Major in college, I read a variety of genres. My personal interests though, tend towards fiction - Fantasy, Science Fiction, Historical fiction, that kind of thing. I'm writing a book right now, the prologue of which is in my blog section. You my have to check the blog archives, because I put it up a while ago, but I invite you to give it a look and let me know whatcha think.

Heroes:

My friend Swudgie says that 'Heroes are disposible' and I agree. Individual acts of heroism are very common though and I was privilaged to witness one up close. My friend Tony died of Pancreatic Cancer recently, but even though his body was being ravaged by the disease and the chemotherapy, he still continued to work up until the last month of his illness. His wife and two children needed him and he made that extra effort for as long as possible. Heroism? You betcha. R.I.P. Tone

Two things I find shameful about MySpace

1. So many young women seem to feel that the very best thing they have to offer is their anatomy (or sometimes just a part of their anatomy).2. So many other people (both men and women) validate this ...
