Ben Brucato 's noise endeavors began as experimentation and recording projects in the mid-nineties.
In 1997, the first official release as Clew Of Theseus, "Memorial:006306" 7" (Interbang/Create A Villain Of Your Own), was released in memory of Merle Austin Africa.
At the time, Brucato's exposure to noise was nonexistent. Influences came from early industrial music and experimentation by hardcore and grind bands. In fact, his first noise records were acquired through trading copies of his first release.
Small, self-released copies of cassettes were all that bridged the gap from that release to the first releases on his label, Cathartic Process in 2002. Releases like the splits with Black Sand Desert, Sewer Election, and 3"s like the "Clue of Thesis", "Home/Visitation" and others came quickly. 2003 saw the first full-length, "The Playground of the Damned" (released in short run for the 2003 NorCal Noise Fest by the artist, official release on Solipsism forthcoming), and 2005 the second, "No Will To Live" on Harsh Noise.
2006 will see the release of Bastard Noise / Clew Of Theseus "Our Earth's Blood IV" featuring sounds from Government Alpha, Sickness, Guilty Connector, Merzbow, Lockweld, MSBR and more.
The third Clew Of Theseus "The Devil Will Find Work" will be release in Spring of 2006, and a split with T.E.F. will follow shortly after.
Clew has performed at the 2003 Oakland Noise Fest, the 2003 NorCal Noise Fest, the 2004 SF Harsh Noise Fest, the 2005 Phoenix Noise Fest and other big shows, and about a dozen, locally in Phoenix.
