K-Town Academiacore!

About Me

The K-town Academiacore-band Thought Police Brutality found its current line-up in the beginning of 2007, when our lead singer joined “the academy” and made it possible for us to make actual songs, with actual content and lyrics. With former members of former bands like Tender Age In Bloom, Highway Donkeys, Supersede and Død Ungdom, something big, loud, fast and brutal is bound to happen!
The music is fast, loud, angry and brutal, inspired by loads of contemporary bands on the KTHC/NYHC/punk/metal/thrash-scenes, the same goes for the lyrics, which are often comments to the society that most people experience on a safe distance through their TV.
The band name is, as you would probably have guessed, derived from George Orwell’s seminal dystopia “1984”, which is as relevant today as ever. It is no secret that the society as a whole has always found it difficult to accept diversity, and that governments, the media and Mr. and Mrs. Denmark in front of their TVs have found it even harder. These years however this fear of the unknown leads to an even harsher attitude towards it, and the authorities in socalled liberal and democratic countries all over the world send their enforcement agencies of the “thought police” on the streets and even into people’s houses, to restore order and normal life (whatever that is?), by whatever means. Human beings have to fit into the little pigeonholes - existing only on the printed forms and databases of the society – otherwise we are going to force them into them. We do not doubt that the “bullshit politicians” think that they are acting for the common good, but along the way they - and the media - have led themselves to believe that there are only one way - or a third way - or whatever they chose to call it. In this process it ends up in tyranny in the guise of democracy. This is not saying that everyone who are in opposition to the majority/authority has a j ust cause, which makes it even more apparent to emphasize that today - as always - there is a huge need to think for yourself and question authority - in whatever guise!
Having said that, it is important for us to point out that the band is not a unified body of opinion. We each come from different academic backgrounds and therefore you are likely to find inconsistency among the band members and the lyrics they have contributed to. We do all agree that society is fucked up, however the notions of power the band employs vary a great deal – from poststructuralist notions of productive power to Marxist and liberal ideas of power as something inherent to a certain institution or group of people. Each notion has its place in the ongoing debate we call reality!
A common denominator for the band is that we all focus on our studies, next to playing in a band, thus the genre academiacore. Studying for us is not a means to good looking CV’s and shiny carriers, which fits nicely into Denmark’s and EU’s struggle for competitiveness. However we educate ourselves to enable us to grasp the reality (if that exists?) from different perspectives and to sometimes get brainwashed by someone else than the media - by someone who actually takes their time to construct their arguments instead of shortcutting into our minds and wallets. Some do drugs to see the world from different perspectives, we study - same same!
If there is a characteristic that is common to academiacore, it is the attempt (or mission) to change the way one makes a valid point in a debate. In academia there are a strict set of rules delimiting acceptable academic behavior closely linked to a distinct reality of high- and lowbrow culture. There are also specific places that an academic debate can take place. This is what we want to challenge and that is what academiacore is all about! the only way to beat the system is by outsmarting it!
See ya out there – stay hardcore and smartcore!
