PLYMOUTH singer-songwriter Sam Ho is enjoying royal recognition – with an invitation to be an ambassador for the Prince's Trust. In his new role, Sam has been asked to perform at the charity's glittering regional awards night. He was also nominated for one of the trust's Young Achiever awards. The 28-year-old credits the Prince's Trust with helping him get on the road to becoming a full-time musician. He served time for armed robbery (4 years) when he was a teenager, and discovered music while behind bars. After his release the royal charity proved vital in helping him to realise his dream of making a living from performing.Sam said: "The Prince's Trust was really helpful. They gave me a loan to buy an amplifier, make a demo and market myself."I feel amazing being chosen as an ambassador. I'm over the moon."As an ambassador Sam will go to a range of events, ranging from prison visits to corporate gatherings, to talk about how music and the Prince's Trust changed his life.On November 19 he will perform in front of 500 guest at Celebrate Success in Bristol, the key event of the Prince's Trust calendar in the South West. The awards recognise the successes of people helped by the trust in education, skills development, employment, enterprise and the community, and the efforts of staff, volunteers and the partner organisations which support the charity.Meanwhile Sam, who co-writes his songs with wife Justine, continues to gig on the Plymouth circuit and is making a demo in London in the hope of getting a recording contract.
