Marion von Tilzer

I was born in a little pilgrim village in the Austrian Alps. Loved the piano and started playing more seriously at the age of eight. My most important teacher was the American pianist Suzanne Bradbury and the French composer/organ player Dominique Rebougeon. I've moved around a lot as a kid - and finally ended up in the swamps of Holland. I studied classical piano at the Amsterdam Conservatory. Worked with different composers performing their new works. In 1999 I co-founded the group Aros together with the Canadian Saxophonist/composer Rob Armus, a classical-Jazz fusion sextet. We toured for some years and released two cds. Other collaborations include classical singer Janice Jackson, Indian singers, Sandhya Sanjana, Neela Bhagwat. I have performed in various festivals and venues such as International Vancouver Jazz Festival, Toronto Downtown Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Holland, Aldeburgh Festival, The Ocean, London, Ultima Festival, Oslo, Lulijana Festival for contemporary Art, Frankfurt Ballet Festival, Bimhuis, Amsterdam, Kunsthalle, Vienna, Wiener Musikgallerie, Concergebouw, Amsterdam, the NCPA in Bombay, Atrium in Athens. I've also written music for dance and film. Worked extensively with the choreographers Elshout&Handeler. Currently I am working on an opera with a synthesis of western and Indian classical music, for which I will be working with Uday Bhawalkar. Recently I've been comissioned to write two pieces for Orchestra for the WDR, Cologne, of which one was premiered in April 2008, the other will be performed 2009. In November 2008 a CD with my new ensemble (nonet) and recent work will be released on Challenge Records.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
