Profile GeneratorWight Light Orchestra is the latest project of prolific producer Max Brennan after a lengthy break from the business spent mostly in the Himalayas. Max is renowned for recording consistently imaginative electronic music during the 90s under numerous pseudonyms on labels such as DC recordings, Peacefrog and Sublime. Equally, his solo performances, world-wide, were a mesmerising spectacle of virtuoso electric bass, worthy of Jaco Pastorius, sojourns at an assemblage of analogue synthesisers or perhaps a spell of inspired horn playing, all with multi-instrumentalist ease.
Identifying his almost devotional/votive intensity the NME referred to Max as a "spiritual disco-technician" which is particularly pertinent now that WLO immerses itself in the vocabulary of spiritual music, together with discernable elements of folk, weaving mantras, Tibetan singing bowls and temple bells as well as classical guitar and lyrics not seen in Max's work until now. But this can never be mere pastiche or a lazy path through familiar genre as the sound is underpinned and ignited by the distinctive rhythmic dynamics and twisted time signatures which characterised his early fusion.
