THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIAL EMPIRE ISIS MYSPACE PAGE

About Me

Once in a while a new musical talent emerges who defies all preconceived notions or ideas. These rare talents help to define popular culture and shape society at large. Nominated for "Most Promising Entertainer" at the International Reggae & World Music Awards, ISIS is truly redefining Reggae music. ISIS is truly one of a kind, she is a child of a Welsh mother, a Moroccan father, but she was raised by a Ugandan stepfather who adopted her. Born in the UK, ISIS, a.k.a. Miriam Moufide grew up partly in Montreal Canada, and Morocco. At the age 16, ISIS set off for South and Central America, bicycling through 7 countries from Panama to Mexico, performing with a regional traveling theater group, and appearing in TV shows like HBO Ole. “Wherever I went, I would storm the stage to perform or freestyle,” says ISIS. “I could be in a room full of bad man yardees, Senegalese, Colombianos or Venezuelans, I always felt empowered by the mic. And no matter who’s out there, I’ll do whatever it takes to connect to them.” Her adventures in Latin America ignited the spark, and in the rolling hills of JA, ISIS found Reggae to fan the flames. In Jamaica, she filmed a documentary about the BoBo Shanti; an isolated group of strict Rastafarians in the hills of Jamaica that gave birth to conscious dancehall pioneer, Sizzla. It was on this trip that ISIS first encountered foundation artists such as Chinna Smith and Dean Frazer, who schooled her on the history and making of Reggae music. “I learned how to identify quality music, and how to create songs,” she says. ISIS put aside her camera, and picked up the mic. Dancehall is the platform from which ISIS speaks on every human experience from love, sex, and friendship, to ghetto life, politics and empowerment. Bedstuy (Brooklyn, NY) became headquarters for ISIS’s world music take over. Her first studio effort, Empress Gangstress, was recorded between New York and Tuff Gong Studios in Jamaica alongside co-producer Junior Keyzland, Smith, Frazer, and many others. With the help of her brothers, ISIS sound and image developed into the Gangstress you see today. The highly anticipated new album entitled “Sound The Trumpet” will be released in 2007 by Monumental Records. The album features veteran artists such as Sizzla Kalonji, Bushman and Turbulence. Empire ISIS brings a militant, passionate, and high energy Reggae music which can be appreciate by all. From her unique look to her blazing lyrics, ISIS is a true provocateur challenging people’s perceptions, stereotypes and common modes of thinking. “Ultimately,” ISIS says, “I want to inspire people to follow their dreams, to do what they’re here on earth for. I was born for this. ISIS has performed before thousands across North America - opening for acts such as Capleton, Bounty Killa, Halfpint, Elephant Man, Gyptian, Mr. Easy, Bushman, Shabba Ranks, Cocoa Tea, Macka Diamond, I Wayne, and Tanya Stephens and many more.
