About Me

Author G.L. Giles’ BiographyBefore I proudly came out of the coffin in 2004 with the publication of my first book, The Vampire Vignettes, many events had led up to the writing of that novelette. Namely, I’d been encouraged since childhood to exercise my imagination, and I largely thank my parents for that because they enabled me to be an avid reader with both access to many of their books and attending good schools with an emphasis on literature and learning as a whole. So, I grew up reading Oz books by L. Frank Baum and others (I consider them in a category all their own), fantasy, science fiction, speculative fiction, and many faerie tales. Reading made me feel like I could do or be anything or anybody I wanted. And, I still feel that way when reading great books;) Furthermore, from a very young age, I was writing poetry, singing my own songs, writing plays and I even wrote a book at eleven years old. It was my own Oz book! However, it was before the days of mainstream computer use, so the entire manuscript was handwritten. I had just one copy of it that I carried around with me everywhere; I didn’t think to photocopy it at eleven years old. One day, when my family was getting ready to embark on a long trip, I put it on top of my parents’ station wagon, so I could put it on my lap last, after I’d loaded everything else. We were in a hurry, and I forgot I’d placed it there. Somewhere in Anderson, South Carolina it was Gone With the Wind...it took me a long time to get over that one, but I did. Yet, I didn’t attempt to write another book until over twenty years later. It was probably a good thing that I waited quite a while to begin writing again in earnest, for it enabled me time to get a degree in English at the College of Charleston where I graduated cum laude with Honors in English in 1993. Moreover, I started studying metaphysics and reading self-help books in 1995. The knowledge and solace from both has been immeasurable. Both The Vampire Vignettes and V2: B4 (The Vampire Vignettes Prequel) show my love of speculative fiction, metaphysics and spirituality. As well as a quest to realize what this life is truly all about. Yet more was added to the mix, however, when I started steadily studying both the scientific and spiritual aspects of quantum physics in April of 2006. My relatively newfound love of quantum mechanics is clearly seen in V3: The Vampire Vignettes ReVamped with chapters such as “Entanglement.” This love of quantum physics and the Zero Point Field has also extended to a weekly podcast called “ChiQchat” that I do with my friend Bobbyjo, where we cover many quantum subjects and also talk about my books! It’s been a blast, and you can download it for free at iTunes, etc. I love the stream of consciousness kind of podcasting and writing both. My language is sometimes archaic and obscure with complex multi-level puns, and I like it that way because while I certainly want to entertain others, I also like entertaining myself at the same time sometimes;) I’m certainly happy that Bobbyjo understands most of what I say and that most of my readers appreciate my experimental and imitable writing style. Wordplay in my books is important to me. I speak both English and Spanish, so I sometimes like to use some multilingual puns. Yet, V3: The Vampire Vignettes ReVamped is set with a precision in the real streets of Charleston, South Carolina primarily, and my historical dates and facts are accurate. However, I consider this book a uchronie since I also add the added dimension of fantasy. To order the latest release in my vampire series, V3: The Vampire Vignettes ReVamped, click on the cover art below where you'll save 15% off of the paperback's retail price and 10% off of the hardback's retail price...Many Thanks!!^V^ G.L.
