Comics, Artists, Costumes and much more!

About Me

Atlanta Comics Expo – ACE – would like to say goodbye and thank you to all who supported it.In just two short years, ACE developed into a very unique and exciting event, blending comics, animation, pop art, designer toys, anime, and costuming with plenty of the after-hours programming and parties that made Dragon*Con legendary. Given time, we feel certain that ACE would have blossomed into a true destination event, providing a creative retreat for fans, vendors and creators alike.ACE opened our eyes to the growing popularity and importance of these additional mediums, and provided a welcome springboard to introduce fans to the many facets of pop art. However, we feel that in order to produce the most enjoyable event possible for all in attendance, we must focus our energies on one event. To that end, we have expanded the Comics track at Dragon*Con, now relabeled Comics and Pop Art. In the weeks to come, Dragon*Con will announce many new guests, programs and festivities designed to infuse a fresh vitality into Dragon*Con's pop art programming. We invite all who embraced ACE to join us in this new direction. In 2008, look for to the Comics and Pop Art track at Dragon*Con to include an exclusive toy release from artist Kathie Olivas, a pop art reception at the gorgeous Sheraton Garden Pool, a special Jack Kirby presentation with Greg Theakston, a comics artist jam, a custom Munny fundraiser (featuring Huck Gee, Sket One and many others) for the American Heart Association, and a thrilling surprise (for all you vinyl toy fanatics) to be announced 30 days prior to the show (sorry, but we're sworn to secrecy). These are but a few of the exciting programs and events on tap for Dragon*Con, in addition to an amazing and diverse lineup of guests that includes Steve Rude and Mike Baron, Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Shane Glines, Dean Yeagle, Joe Jusko, Mark Texeira, Buzz Parker and Rob Reger, Eric Powell, Georges Jeanty, Dexter Vines, Brian Stelfreeze, Cully Hamner, Joseph Michael Linsner, and many, many more! Please continue to visit, as this page will soon become the online home of the Dragon*Con Comics and Pop Art track, with news and announcements regarding this exciting new direction. Thanks to all those who supported ACE in its brief but exciting history; we look forward to your continues support at DragonCon for many years to come.
Atlanta Comics Expo Raises “Munny” for RIF ( Reading is Fundamental)
An extremely talented and eclectic group of artists banded together at Atlanta Comics Expo (ACE) this past February 8-10th in support of RIF. Their resulting efforts are being auctioned off on ebay so as to raise the greatest amount of Money and Awareness for RIF.
Each artist created their own custom Munny, a vinyl action figure with moveable joints produced by designer toy pioneers KidRobot. The Munny is primarily a "Do-it-Yourself" toy which the owner can decorate in any number of ways.
ACE asked artists to participate in 1 of 2 different categories:
1. The “Iron Munny” where artists had to create their Munny on site during the three day convention with only the supplies that they had brought with them, or...
2. The “Munny Gram” where Munnys were delivered to the artists a week or two before the convention and thus they were able to use a wider variety of materials (such as sculptural elements) and were also able to take a bit more time to work on the project.
Special thanks to the following artists and writers for participating: Stephanie Gladden, Shane Morton, Derek Yaniger, Ragnar, Dave Cook, Tyson McAdoo, David Atchison, Bobby Nash, Sean Taylor, Jason Flowers, Michael Golden, Eric Pigors, Eric Powell, Michelle Poust, Kevin Stokes, Craig Hamilton, J. Chris Campbell, Thom Foolery, Mark Brooks, Ethan VanSciver, and MANY MORE!
If you would like to see and bid on all of the MUNNYS created by ACE artists for RIF, please visit our ebay store, listed under ebay sellers at Atlanta_comics_expo. Auctions will begin on Saturday Fenruary 23, 2008. Be sure to check often for munnys from your favorite artists! 100% of the net proceeds raised by these auctions will be donated to Reading is Fundamental to help support their remarkable efforts to foster children's literacy.
