September 2007 baby! ... September 2007!

About Me

It’s been 2years since the release of the Dallas Explosion’s first EP called « Depression is a fulltime job » (produced by Mike Butcher and released on Fuzz Recordings/Mandai Distribution). Great reviews, great shows in their country – Belgium (Dour Festival, Les Nuits Botanique, Verdur Rock, Marktrock, Gentse Feesten and support act for the Killers), The Netherlands (support act for Bush, Monster Magnet and 5 sold out shows warming up for legendary Willy DeVille), Germany (headlining a stage at the Free and Easy festival in Munich) and France, a few radio airplays and most of all, more and more new fans. It’s now (soon) September 2007 and their first LP “Girlfriends & Excess” is finally being released. Nearly as much awaited as Axl Rose/Guns and Roses’ Chinese Democracy, it took them quite a long time to be able to get it out.“Never the right time, never the right deal”They define their music (with the help of what some journalists have said over the years) as: Dirty Classic Rock that ain’t classic yet Retro influences with a 21st century sound Soul/rhythm and blues influenced rock musicAbout Girlfriends & Excess Recorded at many different studios in Belgium over the year 2005 (Rising Sun, Sugarbeat, Team 4 Action, etc) Mixed by John Roo (Hollywood Pornstars, Experimental Tropic Blues Band) over the year 2006 Master by Alan Ward at Electric City in Brussels. “We like to see this album as a big production with a lo-fi approach and a tiny budget It got 13 different tracks that just don’t sound like a one 43minutes long song! It’s like classic rock going in every direction. It got a bit of soul, funk, blues, punk and some pop.”Facts: Dallas Geoffrey Hautvas is a session musician who plays with Anton Walgrave and Silverene to name a few. He writes all the music and lyrics in the band, got a big problem with buying way too much guitars than what he really needs.Morris Raymond feels really bad about making any sort of compromise regarding music (“no worries we don’t have any sort of pressure like that and we wouldn’t even listen to them if so”). He can be referred as the jazz guy making a big name for himself as a pianist in the Belgian jazz circuit.Colin Debruine is the newie as he joined the Dallas Explosion in January 2006, first as a keyboard player and now as the new drummer. “It’s actually half true as he was the one drumming on our very first show long time ago and did a few interim drumming jobs for us over the years.”Onstage things have now dramatically changed as the Dallas Explosion has put the bass guitar in the closet in quest of brand new sound that they might have found! It features Dallas on the lead vocal and guitar, Colin on the drums and 2nd lead voice and Morris playing keyboards (the basslines with the left hand and the piano with the rights) and background vocal.Sorry for all the chit-chat and the history part but the Dallas Explosion has been going on for so long and it’s only now that the first LP is coming out that there was quite a long list of things to tell you.“Girlfriends and Excess” is a mega production recording with a crude and dynamic sound. “The Dallas Explosion” is a (retro?) rock band with a bit of glam, a bit of soul, a bit of blues and 21st century sound. “The Dallas Explosion” may not have the best haircuts and the hype looks, but they got the songs and they rock fucking loud!
