It’s been a long, long journey to get me where I am today........... a beautiful wife, Sandy, who is the love of my life, two kids, John , 23, and Sarah, 17, who I am very proud of, a barnyard full of critters, and a career that I absolutely love.
It all started at the tender age of seven the day my big bro Tommy let me play his acoustic guitar and taught me a few chords. I knew from that point of my life what I wanted to do. By the age of fifteen I was in a band with Tommy playing bars, small colleges and just about anywhere they’d have us. The band split up and Tommy went on to play with the Charlie Daniels Band where he cowrote "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" and alot of other Charlie’s hits earning himself a room full of gold and platinum records and industry awards. Me, I just floundered around for awhile til I got a gig playing with the Bobby Whitlock Band (Of Derek and the Dominoes). Didn’t make any money but had a great time!!!!! In ’77 I got a call from my old friend Henry Paul. He had left the Outlaws and gone out on his own. I moved to Tampa Fl. and recorded four albums with The Henry Paul Band and did nonstop touring with the likes of the Allman Bros. Band, The Rolling Stones, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Charlie Daniels Band, Rossington Collins, Molly Hatchet, ZZ Top, and countless others. ’82 rolled around and we weren’t touring much anymore so I tried a country stint for awhile with The Bellamy Brothers. After five years of nonstop touring I decided I wanted to slow down for awhile. I moved back to Nasville, Tn where I was born and raised and went into a songwriting career which has brought me to where I am today. I’ve had hit songs recorded by Martina Mcbride, Dixie Chicks, The Bellamy Brothers, Sara Evans, Restless Heart, Poco, Yankee Grey, and others. I still do a session every once in awhile playing on records with The Dixie Chicks, Shania Twain, Pam Tillis and a slew of others. I continue to write for various artists and develop acts to produce here in Nashville. Who knows what the future holds............ I’ll keep ya posted. By the way, check out my bro’s band Tommy Crain and The Crosstown Allstars. THEY’RE AWESOME!!!!!
Well, the future has changed. I’ve now joined forces with old friends Henry Paul and Monte Yoho to tour with The Outlaws. Maybe I’ll see ya out there on the road somewhere......
