About Me

What images come to mindwhen one hears the word Voodoo? Do you think of dead chickens and blood sacrifice? Voodoo dolls? Perhaps even black magic? Though these are quite common associations none are actually part of the original religion, and the use of dolls didn't even originate until it reached New Orleans. Voodoo itself means "Great Spirit", and it is a belief that encourages its followers to better understand the natural process of life and man's own spiritual nature. To the cats in EVBR the word Voodoo symbolizes the culture and mysticism associated with the evolution of Blues and its effects on almost every type of music since its birth. When the British began exporting slaves from West Africa they were also exporting a culture that over the course of history would have an enormous impact on American music. These unfortunate souls brought with them their customs, language, and their traditional music styles. From Africa to the Carribean, from the Carribean to New Orleans, from New Orleans across the Mississippi Delta, and then north towards Blues hotbeds like Memphis and Chicago. It isn't hard to trace the rich history of the genre from it's humble front porch beginnings to the signature electric sounds of Muddy Waters, BB King, Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and a host of many others. Electric Voodoo is the concept that music is heavily influenced by not only its roots but its contemporary enviroment as well. Please join us for a hefty helping of Blues served up with a heaping side of American tradition and topped off with the rich gravy that is Electric Voodoo Blues Revue!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: electricvoodooblues.com
Band Members: Riley Williams - guitar/vocals, Colin Heslip - bass, James Reed - drums
Influences: The blues and our life experiences.
Sounds Like: As one of our big fans has said, "Balls to the wall guitar driven in your face music!" We play covers and originals of blues music and classic rock songs that stay true to blues. We play dinner crowds, late night crowds, outdoor crowds, parties, weddings, you name it. The vocals are that of a bluesman, raw and soulful. The guitar is rhythmic yet complex and filled with lead licks and solos of any mood from soft and slow to hard and loud. The drums have a funky-jazzy feel and are highly focused on dynamics (tone, timbre, tempo, volume, etc) while the bass player is the rock of our foundation, the glue that holds the band together. Sometimes the Lone Harpist, Scott McQueen (Mean McQueen as we like to call him) will show up. When McQueen and Williams trade off licks with each other the crowd goes wild! No wuss music here!
Record Label: Reel Voodoo Records
Type of Label: Indie
