I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Hi everyone,Welcome to the myspace for Horse Rescue United Network. We are a network of equine rescues that are linked together to help save horses throughout the United States. Working together we can make a difference for horses in trouble. To see a list of our networked rescues, go to http://www.horserescueunited.net If you are a rescue and would like to join with HRUN, or if you would like to volunteer, please email me at [email protected] you are interested in volunteering, here are the things we are needing volunteers for: 1. Transport Volunteers: someone who is willing to transport horses for a short distance in an emergency situation. You will either pass the horse or horses on to the next volunteer, or to the rescue/owner. 2. Layover volunteers: People who have space for a horse to rest at along the transport route. This can be essential for horses with injuries or if they becoem stressed during the transport. All we ask is for a minimum of safe pasture space or a stall with water for the horse to be in.

My Interests

Working with horses to find them forever homes. Going riding on a horse that others felt wasn't worth anything anymore. Seeing a horse turn from the brink of death and find a loving home. The horses in the slide show below were all pulled from a kill pen! Do they look like they are too old, unmanageable, or worthless? I do not think so. Many of them have gone on to live wonderful lives far away from a foreign dinner plate!

I'd like to meet:

I would like to meet all the equine rescuers throughout the United States. They are an inspiration to me since they are willing to take on horses that others see as throw aways and work to find them loving forever homes. I would also like to meet Willie Nelson, Whoopie Goldberg, Bo Derek, Viggo Mortensen, and any other celebrities that are also working so hard to help the horses in need. I would also like to meet the Congress Members that are working to keep horse slaughter. I would like to be able to show them the things that I have learned since helping the Equine Rescues. I would like to show them the truth about the horses that go to slaughter. I would like to meet the leaders of the countries that eat horse meat. Not to bash them, but to encourage them to really look at the horse meat that they get from the United States. I know that the horses are given medications and vaccinations that could harm the people that eat them. I want to show them where the horses come from and what most of them have in their systems. The horses that are slaughtered are not raised on farms just for slaughter. They are purchased at auctions by kill buyers (individuals that buy specifically to sell to the slaughter houses). They don't declare any medications that the horses have taken, because they do not know. Many equine medications are labled so that they are not used in animals slaughtered for human consumption. It is terrible to think that the horses are being slaughtered, but it is also terrible to think of the side effects that could happen to the people who eat their meat.

Music:

Here is what Equine Rescuers look for when they are called about a possible neglect case. Please, if you see horses that fit the score of 0-2 (see pictures for a better view), contact your local Equine Rescue to get help. They can contact the authorities and help these horses. Or if you would like, me at [email protected]!

Movies:

These horses are all located at rescues. Most have been rehabilitated and are looking for new homes. To see which rescue they are at, just place your curser on the picture in the slide show. The horse's name, Rescue, and the website where more information can be found is listed there.

Books:

What is a nurse mare foal?Orphan nurse mare foals are a product of the nurse mare farm industry. Most people associate these babies with PMU (Pregnant Mare Urine) babies and that couldn't be farther from the truth. PMU babies are generated as a result from breeding mares specifically for their urine, as menopause drugs for women are manufactured from hormones found within their urine. Though they are both generating foals, usually PMU ranches allow the mares to nurse their young.Nurse mare farms breed "worthless" mares to "worthless" studs for the purpose of nursing foals other than their own (Usually high dollar show or race horses). This has been happening for 30+ years, but has remained "underground" so unfortunately, it could be happening right down the street and you probably wouldn't know it.There are many reasons why people think this is necessary, the dam dies in birth, the dam can immediately return to work, be transported immediately, can be covered on the foal heat, etc. Many myths have surrounded this industry, including the most popular; it's a Thoroughbred thing; and its understandable why people have come to that conclusion. In order for a Thoroughbred to be eligible for registry, they must have been a live cover breeding. Though the racing industry is a major player, many different breeds are involved in the practice. So to answer the question: "What is a nurse mare foal?" These foals are unfortunate by-products of a industry in practice of leasing a mare out for her milk.It is very important to remember that each individual foal is different. So just because it works for one foal does not mean it applies to all! Always use common sense when making choices & decisions on your foal's care. Don't be afraid to ask someone with more experience, and always gather all the info you can through all the available sources. Remember that a little hard work & effort really pays off as you see these guys grow into the healthy & beautiful horses they will become.
