Me 'n' Charlie 'n' Rob messing around with Skyaak on a Sunday afternoon:
(I should explain that Skyaak is not about extreme distance and it is really nothing like a Frisbee. It's all about form and technique. It takes practice and finesse. So every throw is not always a great throw. Some are great and some are flubbed, even in the hands of an expert.)
Thought I'd stick another (brief) clip in to show more of the Skyaak-ing fun we had over the wkend...
My buddy Gumbee demonstrates his seemingly effortless throwing technique (one of several distinctly different types) here at Manitou Beach. This is not really one of his best throws...but it gives you a wee bit of an idea. CHECK my blog entry here "GUMBEE SMOKES SKYAAK!" to READ MORE.

Gumbee executes a heroic pose with his Skyaak. He informs us that he is officially addicted!

Visit the official Skyaak blog at Skyaak/blog You will not be disappointed! SKYAAK gets a GLOW-ON!
Dylan Cooke has just unveiled the coolest new Skyaak innovation: Skyaak UltraGlow! Here's an early photo:

Gene recently flew out to Nova Scotia and had a stopover in Dundas, Ontario. He brought a Skyaak along with him and took it out to the streets of Dundas while he was there. He had brought a Night-Lit version with him and apparently it was a hit with a bunch of guys there that he ran into. According to Gene, he was basically mobbed a few minutes after he started chucking his Skyaak around with his nephew Tim.
Here's one of the photos Gene sent:

"Addicted 2 Skyaak in Dundas, Ontario" Left to Right: Taylor, Arthur, Cody, Alex, Ayden (behind Alex), Will, and Jake.
Here's a note that Jake, one of the eager participants, sent me shortly after:
Hello Michael, My name is Jake and I am emailing you because when one of your friends was in Dundas, Ontario, he showed my friends and I the Skyaak. We played with it on the street and got addicted quickly. Your friend, I believe, took pictures of me and my friends and we were told we would be on the website as an ad for the Skyaak. The names of my friends are as follows: Jake (me), Will, Taylor, Alex, Arthur, Cody and Ayden.
Thank you for allowing us to experience this new Flying Toy.
Regards-Jake

Brendan O'Keefe gives us a look at Skyaak in Melbourne. ( This is the 1st sneak preview!)

My name is Michael and I live, work and play at the Resort Village of Manitou Beach in Saskatchewan, Western Canada.
I am a long-term kidney transplant recipient. It has been nearly 28 years since I received the "Gift of Life" from my brother Steven. I will remain forever grateful to Steven for his courageous act that plucked me back from the abyss of a certain early death. There's nothing like a close brush with one's own mortality to make a person aware of the treasure that is LIFE. I try my best to get the most out of every single day, and I am very grateful for all of the abundant blessings that have been showered on me over the years.
My personal motto is "Cherish the Precious Present".
I am a life-long professional artist who specializes in large historic murals. Check out selections of my personal and commissioned artwork at GALLERY GAUDET.
I love the satisfaction of launching a hand-built glider. Flight is, for me, a powerful metaphor of freedom and independence. To achieve flight is to gain freedom, if only for a minute, from earth-bound stresses. I have branched off into aeronautical design to create a unique 'Ring-Wing' style hand-launched glider called 'SKYAAK'. Rhymes with kayak.
Check out Demo clip below, where you will see the innovative GLUE-FREE assembly technique that converts a flat object to a 3D Ring-Wing. This unlikely-looking flying device seems to create its own vortex as it flies through the air. It has been seen to self-correct its trajectory, especially when it spins on its axis in flight. With a certain amount of expertise, you can create a vigorous spinning motion that increases both the stability and velocity of your flight.
You can get the whole Skyaak scoop at www.skyaak/blog I encourage you to check out my mySpace blog too, of course. I always welcome any and all comments you might have. Positive or negative. Feedback is always good.
I've been working out with a guy named Evan Reiffersheid here who has proven to be an exceptionally great Skyaak enthusiast. I have been quizzing him quite extensively and here is what I am finding out. More accurately, he is simply confirming what I already know after all my experience with Skyaak.

Evan says, first of all, that he was easily able to figure out ALL BY HIMSELF five or six different throwing techniques for the Skyaak. This is thanks to the fact that he has a background in sports and is keenly interested in the skill set that enables him to excel with his Skyaak.

He went on to say that he loves Skyaak ( he rates it above Frisbee for excitement ) for many reasons.
He claims that the Skyaak is valuable, stimulating and exciting to him because it functions as a TRAINER in these areas:
1) ambidextrous work-out
2) reflex builder
3) agility trainer
4) hand-to-eye coordination
5) muscle memory builder

This is an impressive list, and all of these areas get a solid, useful work-out whether you're conscious of it or not. Evan also says that since he has independently developed five distinctly different throwing techniques, he finds the Skyaak to have long-lasting appeal. In fact, he says Skyaak has become one of his favorite leisure-time activities!
On a scale of 1-10, Evan rates Skyaak at a 8.5 or higher for overall excitement, interest, and training benefit.
Thanks, Evan. You rock, dude.
It is QUITE a rush to catch this puppy as it can barrel in on you at airspeeds in excess of 40 Kms/Hr. Designed with safety in mind, as a good throw can practically knock your recipient off the ground! Just kidding...enjoy the demo.

My Interests

My Family, My Friends!! Ring-Wing aircraft design, Flying toys that glow-in-the-dark, Glow-in-the-dark bracelets, Law of Attraction, The Secret, The Power of Intention, art, mural painting, high-fidelity portrait painting, actually...painting ANYTHING that floats my boat. Now, I thought I would expand a bit on this 'general interest' thing. I mean, after all, who reads this stuff anyway? I am not referring to your eyes, that would be rude. I know my brain usually glazes over within several seconds of some Joe going on and on about their interests. Especially if it is just one long continuous list of phrases that fails to captivate. After spending (quite) a bit of time online and perusing through perhaps several hundred ms pages, I have developed a bit of a calous in my brain when it comes to reading about peoples' interests. Although I DO SCAN through stuff to see if anything catches my fancy. In a couple of rare intances this activity has been rewarded with some damn good chuckles. So I guess you could say that one of my interests is actually digging into this stuff with a prospector's eye for the occasional nugget. And you know what? I have actually found some. Another thing that I am pretty stoked about is people that actually respond to personal notes that I send. A pet peeve would be the majority of people that don't bother. I ask you, what is the point of social networking and myspace itself if all you wanna do is lurk around and not really participate an iota? That is so lame. Go away. Please note: Just because I happen to enjoy networking on the net doesn't mean I don't have real-life, physical relationships with flesh and blood people. For instance, I am happliy married. With a wonderful , accomplished daughter who is, by the way, graduating from grade 12 very soon. Did I mention that I have a wife and daughter? And a real-world, real-time life? I am not that fond of the frequent requests that I get here on mySpace from young ladies who want to parade themselves in front of me. How many times do I have to 'deny' these young ladies before they will take a second to read my personal data that says I am married? Double DUHHH! MySpace should really do something about that. How about a 'BLOCK SENDER' option. Or am I missing something? Well thanks Tom! I see we now have the option to "Mark as Spam". That is good.I have no clue why I am even bothering with this exercise. Not that anybody will ever read this, unless you SO do not have a life, I just wanna say in closing that the real reason I bothered to jot down these thoughts was because I like the way that the text scrolls down the page on the left-hand side. It's strictly a graphic thing, dude. They say it’s lonely at the top. Well, it can also be lonely at the bottom. And everywhere in between. Enough of the stiff upper lip thing and pretending that everything is tickedy-boo. Because it isn’t. While it is very likely preferable to appear strong, focused, motivated and accomplished, the truth is some days I just want to pull my hair out. Another reality dose: it seems to me that the world in general is becoming more and more anti-social. Or non-social. It seems that everybody is out to vacuum a buck out of your wallet, or is suspicious that that’s what you are trying to do to them.Ha! My cynical, jaded side is coming to the surface even after all of my stoic efforts to plug into the Law of Attraction to meet “ all of the right people “ and attract all of the things into my life that are my birthright as a thinking, creative spirit.Sure, I have met some astonishing people both online and in my everyday life. Really. But you know what? I get this funny feeling that I am only one of millions of people that are beginning to get the impression that they are on the outside looking in.I wonder what percentage of people plying the deep waters of the net actually feel that they have derived any tangible benefit from it? Yeah, there is the obvious feature of pretty much infinite information out there for anybody with a thirst for it. But when it comes to building relationships with real people, I wonder what the reality is.Is this the age of Enlightenment or the Age of Alienation? While I appreciate the potential of the internet with its groups, forums, social networking, websites, e-mail and the like to act as an amazing level playing field that can unite people together with common goals and dreams, I also see that this planetary force also has a dark side.It is just too easy to make promises and commitments visa-vis e-mail and then simply abandon them as frivolous. If I were to stop and think about how many people have ‘promised’ to follow up on an idea over the past few months and have then simply faded away into the obscure muck of virtual anonymity that is just SO easy to do in a wired world, it would get a bit depressing. Whatever happened to the simple value and integrity of a person’s good word?Is this just another argument in favor of my little thesis that the world is getting more anti-social and dog-eat-dog or is it just that people are getting more lazy and less committed to honoring their word?I would love it if you were to prove me wrong by dropping me a note. But I certainly won’t hold my breath. I DO have a real life and keep busy and productive in my own small corner of the world. Nothing earth-shaking. Just a guy trying to make an honest living. With an eye bent towards forging real relationships with real people whose word is worth something. Because mine is.

To increase your power with less exertion, simply employ the "Finger-Flicker" technique (kinda like the atlatl or throwing stick technique except your fingers are your equipment) like this:

A Skyaak archival footnote:

Front View of Skyaak Model 3:

I'd like to meet:

would like to meet people interested in practicing the Law of Attraction, as profiled on The Secret.

I would also like to meet people who are interested in aviation design, especially unique and unusual airfoils. Like Burt Rutan and Paul MacCready. Dr. Kroo from Stanford?

Simply put, I really enjoy meeting people who have a positive attitude and are getting things done that excite them. I appreciate and value people who are committed to follow through with their intentions, people who do what they say they are going to, or at least sincerely try. Procrastinators and bullshitters are sooo boring. Stop making lame excuses and JUST DO SOMETHING...ANYTHING! Meanwhile, please don't waste my precious time.

I'd also like to meet people who have a track record of excellence in sports such as Extreme/Ultimate Frisbee, javelin, any throwing and/or catching pros, basically anyone interested in high-end performance...get ahold of me! I am getting my Skyaak invention out to the world and YOU can be a major mover and shaker to make this happen!

Music:

I love all kinds of music...my brain cells are not working that well at the moment...must have some more coffee...the only qualifier is that it must be delivered with passion and conviction and be well put-together with some inspiration. The only music I would actually shut off is maybe hard-core C&W that is too down and out. Tears in my beer stuff you know. And you can keep most of the REALLY heavy metal-head stuff. Just sounds like a mindless clamor to me. Must be getting old. Some highlights might include, and I hasten to point out this is an incomplete list in no particular order:

NEWS FLASH! German artist VOLKER HINKEL is my latest discovery. You are listening to him NOW! He is so INSPIRED!

Miss Higgins, Bif Naked, Ozzy, Wide-Mouth Mason, Hank Williams Jr., Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Andrew White, Angus Finnan, Bare Naked Ladies, U2, Brendan O'Keefe, Gene Angers, Cheryl Gaudet, Bruce Cockburn, John Lennon, Annette Peacock, Beatles, Neil Young, Bedouin Soundclash, Billy Talent, Arcade Fire, Sam Roberts, Foo Fighters, ...

Movies:

The Secret, What the Bleep do we know?, Down the Rabbit Hole, The Wizard of Oz (except those ghastly flying monkeys),Shawshank Redemption, Eraser Head, Clockwork Orange, Hard Day's Night OMG I guess I don't get out much...I'm running out of ideas here...oh yeah The Aviator was cool. And quite disturbing.

Books:

'Future Shock' by Alvin Toffler, 'Tipping Point' by Malcolm Gladwell 'Wisdom of the Mystic Masters' by Joseph J. Weed, 'Winged Pharoah' by Joan Grant, Everything by Wayne Dyer, 'Conversations With God' by J. Donald Walsh, Everything that oddball genius Spider Robinson wrote...Love 'em all...as in MindKiller, Lady Slings the Booze...I am a huge Kurt Vonnegut Jr. fan...Richard Attenburough makes the sprawlingly complex comprehensible, Collin Wilson...

Heroes:

Leonardo da Vinci, Marc Garneau, Burt Rutan, Paul (the BirdMan) MacCready, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Nikola Tessla, John Lennon, Richard Bach, Frank Zappa, Colonel Saunders, Orville Redenbacker, Tony the Tiger, Ronald McDonald, my daughter Ilara who graduates from grade 12 in 2007...
