I was born in Carnarvon, Western Australia, on the 20th of September 1977. I am Aboriginal (Black Australian), of the Nundah (Yamitji) Tribal People from Mooni-mia which is near Northampton WA. I have lived most of my life in a small town called Shark Bay, which is about a thousand kilometres north of Perth WA, with a population of about 600 mixed European, Aboriginal and Asian people. After completing my Primary School years in Shark Bay I went to John Frewer Hostel in Geraldton for three and a half, where I did my High School years, I left School early. On leaving High School I went straight into the Work Force, I did Heavy Machinery and Labouring jobs for most of my Teen years, until 1996 when I moved to Perth (Western Australian Capital) to look for better opportunities. I moved back to Shark Bay where I was self employed as a Sign Writer, and studied Art Courses. In 1999 I moved back to Perth and studied Music for four years. While I was doing Music, I also completed several Courses on Aboriginal History, Culture, Music, Language and Social Issues. At the end of my studies I began teaching at a Primary School. I dealt mainly with troubled Children, from all Backgrounds, Children who came from broken Homes or had major trouble fitting in at school. I also taught Music and was a Teachers Aid. I left my job at the Primary School to start work with the Department of Justice, helping youth get their life back together after they were released from Remand Prisons. I am currently working at a Casuarina Prison (Maximum Security for Adults), teaching Music and helping Prisoners with Education. - Joses

It was Said Long Ago, ‘In the Last Days many False Guitarists will Rise’.
How do we recognize false Guitarists? False Guitarists are quite easy to identify, they are those who:
* believe their Style of Music that they play is the best Style.
* believe Music Theory is a waste of time, and that reading Music is worthless.
* hide behind Rock Music cliché’s like Tattoos, Black Clothing, Long Hair, Drugs, and Tainted Language.
* idolize and worship unworthy Guitarists and try to convince others to do the same.
* believe that the quality of Playing is determined by Speed alone.
* believe that ‘Fifth Chords’ are not legitimate, or the opposite, and believe you only need to know ‘Fifth Chords’.
* believe you have to use every Scale and Mode you can in a Solo.
* parade around with a Guitar strapped to their back but never Play it.
* believe that the Six String has been exhausted and need to move to more strings, or the opposite, and believe that more strings is not valid. Etc…
There is nothing wrong with loving the Style you Play, or not having as much knowledge as others, or having Tattoos, or the Clothes you wear, or enjoying the Music of the Great Guitarists, or the thrill of Shredding, or the versatility of the ‘Fifth Chord’, or the knowledge and applications of standard and exotic Scales. The problem begins when:
* we refuse to, or don’t know how to learn more about the instrument.
* when we keep trying to Play, and don’t just Play.
* we reject the fact that there’s not all these different styles and ways of Playing Guitar, there’s just Playing the Guitar.
* we snub other people idea’s and teachings about the Guitar.
* we Box ourselves or others into categories or stereotypes to keep control.
Dedication to enhancing yourself on the Guitar does not involve Sacrifice, it involves Passion; it is a Medium for the Soul to speak through.
THERE IS NO GUITAR PLAYER THAT IS DEAD, THAT IS LIVING, AND THAT IS TO COME, THAT CAN PLAY ANY BETTER THAN YOU. IF YOU REALY WANT IT, YOU WILL HAVE IT !!! - Joses

The Great Spirit
The Question
In my 21st year The Great Spirit came to visit me. As my body began to rest, I felt His presence coming near to my Self. I was not afraid for I was calm under His Supremacy. He stood not far from Me, and through the Power of His Spirit He spoke to Me. He said, “you are Joses, and this hour I have come to give you your Hearts Desire, What do want? Whatever you ask for You will have, what is in your Heart I will bring into being”. I immediately replied, “I want to be the greatest Guitar Player of all time”, I continued, “I want to be better than…”, and spoke many names of many Guitar Players who I would like to be greater than. Suddenly I felt a change in disposition of The Great Spirit, a strong sensation and a feeling of disappointment exuded from His very Heart. He said to me, “If this is what Heart desires, then this is what you will have”, and His presence left me and never returned.
The Regret
This is my Great Regret, that I would ask for something so ‘Stupid’, this one point of time in my life I think about constantly. THINK ABOUT IT, and how big this is – If someone told you that you could have anything one thing you desired, WHAT WOULD THAT BE ? Not something so stupid as to want to play the Guitar I bet, - I messed up big-time. There is only one other Man that I know of that has had the same offer by The Great Spirit, only one other man since the beginning of Human History, and he stuffed it also. I doubt strongly if I will ever have this opportunity again, and what TRUE Desires now dwell in my Heart I cannot have, for a choice was made. My Warning is this – Make absolutely sure that what is in your Heart is True and Just, for you don’t know when The Great Spirit will come, Check yourself every day.
Continued
Many times since, I have had Dreams about what I should be Practicing, and countless Revelations concerning the Instrument itself. Playing Guitar is alright, but it certainly is not what I Live for. Am I saying that I am the Greatest Guitar Player of All Time – No, it’s just a story. What I am saying should be quite clear – Guitar is not worth Living for, it’s a good Passion, but that’s all.
It’s nice to know there are Guitar Players out there that can Play with passion, but you don’t see many these days - point me in the right direction. So what are we talking about here – speed, technique, feel, because if arpeggios and dive bombs are whats on offer, then thanks for Playing the Game and Goodnight. Show me someone who has the knowledge of Andres Segovia, or the feel of Eddie Van Halen. I truly know that there can be a ‘Greatest Guitarist of all Time’, and I know he hasn’t come yet - which comes down to Passion and the Sound, not a particular style.
My List –
Adam Fulara, Adrian Smith, Andres Segovia, Angus Young, Brett Garsed, Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana, Charlie Patton, Chuck Berry, Dave Edwards, Dimebag Darrel, Django Reinhardt, Eddie Van Halen, James Hetfield, Jason Becker, Jeff Beck, John Fogerty, John Petrucci, Kerry King, Kirk Hammet, Malcolm Young, Michael Angelo, Ottmar Liebert, Paul Gilbert, Robert Fripp, Slash, Son House, Stanley Jordan, Steve Morse, Steve Trovato, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tom Morello, Wes Montgomery, Yngwie Malmsteen, Zakk Wylde
If their not on this List then I don’t like their Playing or I haven’t heard of them. If you don’t like my List then go read someone else’s List. Don’t Like what I’ve written on my Myspace Page – go to someone else’s Page. Don’t Like Me – I don’t Care. You want to write to me requesting to challenge me as a Guitar Player, as some of you have, then Line them up.

ART ON THE INSIDE

Out of 2 Million People in Western Australia over 3500 are Prisoners, over 2800 (80%) are Aboriginal (Black Australian). Western Australia has one Maximum Security Prison, Casuarina. 50% of the Prisoners in Casuarina are Aboriginal. Aboriginal People are the Minority in there own Country (all of Australia), but they are the Majority in the Prisons. I won’t go into all ‘System’ problems that are set up to put Aboriginal People in Jails; this is just a few Statistics to get people thinking.

What I want to talk about is the Art work produced by the Aboriginal Prisoners. Artistic expression is a Cultural Identity with Aboriginal People, this include Sports, Art, Music, and the Spirit World. The Quality of the Paintings produced by Aboriginal Prisoners is Amazing. Take my advice, if you’re an Art Collector then check out some of there work at the Old Fremantle Prison. Not nearly enough said, but it’s all I’m going to say. - Joses

Unfortunately, I’m not allowed to show Prisoners Artwork, but here is a Painting in a Cell from the Old Fremantle Prison. The Prisoners were allowed to do some Paintings on the walls before it was closed indefinitely in 1991; the Prisoners were relocated to the New Casuarina Prison.

Sounds Like: Nothing you’ve ever heard.
A lot of Guitarist’s claim to be “One” with their Guitar, and others put their Guitar’s on a pedestal. To me this is all “Crap”. The Guitar should not be leading you; you should be dominating It. Guitar’s are created by Hand or Machine, their from the thought process of another human Being. Guitar's are made to be played, and played hard! - Josesaka: gui: tar:
--------------------------------

My first Guitar influence was John Fogerty. When I was a child I thought he was brilliant, these days I think he’s super-natural. He is so underrated as a Guitar Player. As far as I’m concerned, John Fogerty is at the top of the ‘Mountain’. - Joses
