The Polish Brothers are a rare breed in today’s film. They write, direct, produce, and act in their own movies. They also share their vision with those who will listen.
I met Mark and Michael a couple of years ago. In fact, it was the day my kid was born in a wacky hospital in North Hollywood – A far cry from my hometown of Kingswood, Surrey – your typical five shop village in South England. After sharing interests in football and Lee Morgan, they tell me they were creating a superhero, and would I like to be involved? Well there’s a boyhood dream come to life.
Salvador is a symbol of hope and prayer for the broken and disenfranchised. His heritage is Aztec, his destiny is pre-determined. He is a metaphor for old warrior ideals and blind love versus the brave new world, which cannot be stopped. Yet it is never the outcome of the journey, but the journey itself.
“I cannot save the world. I cannot save myself from trying.”
His is the stuff of future legend, but his time is now. As we pay the bills, eat pizza, and rant about the news, before eating more pizza and watching the box, Salvador’s tale is a portentous foreshadowing of the tomorrow we live in… crashing forth at a reckless pace.
How to translate the concepts and how to set the stage? After much brainstorming and nurturing, and wanting to honor the forefathers of comic and film, yet set ourselves apart – we feel we’ve got something pretty darn special. Without wanting to give too much away (trust me, it’ll be worth the wait), here is a brief preview as to who Salvador is:
A savior or DNA discards; he is the salvation for genetic engineering gone array. As a product of the testing he was born brittle and light as a feather. As a result he has the gift of flight with the aid of quill-like wings. Yet, ultimately he is fragile and cannot be touched in love or war. The world he loves and desire to save – can shatter him to pieces.
The first issue is stunning, tragic, and silent. We felt no words were needed nor should be uttered… Our hero has fallen. Master artist, Steph Stamb, has painted the picture, and the reader shall draw a conclusion.
So strap yourself in for a trip to the beautiful and the bizarre. Salvation is coming.
