About Me
Tarick Goodman (Woodz) was born in Florence, South Carolina and was raised in New York, Georgia, and the St. John area of South Carolina, respectively. Woodz was originally exposed to Hip-Hop via his eldest brother, Leo, while listening to him rap. He was then later inspired to write lyrics and rap after watching his other brother, Straw, perform in local talent shows. Woodz, then evolved to perform at local clubs, talent shows, and had the opportunity to open for various mainstream artists. Woodz unique, energetic, style shines though on stage as well as his comedic delivery. He also tends to focus more on the realistic side of living in his lyrics which some consider to be called, Blue Collar Rap instead of the Bling type of style that is now considered mainstream. His vision, with this mindset, can be incorporated into a statement, from him, regarding living in the south. The woods is not just a place, its a state of mind. Woodz would like his audience to come away with the feeling, after listening to his music, that no matter what is said or done, to just be oneself and not what outside influences would like to portray a person as. Some of Woodzs musical influences stem from mostly seasoned R&B artists such as, Al Green, Patti LaBelle, The OJays, Bobby Wormack, Donnie Hathaway, then evolve into artists such as KRS-1, Grandmaster Flash, N.W.A., Wu-Tang, Outkast, Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, and Scarface. He also adds that his brothers, the W.H.U.T Squad, and physically challenged artist, Ruckus are tremendous influences for him. Woodz would like to see his career develop with a consistent fan base, working with his musical influences, TV, movies, owning his own label and giving back to his community. He also has a love for basketball, video games, traveling, friends and children.
