Dance Can't done 4 '3' Nights!!!....Thats Da Vibes, that Gave BirTh to the Original PrinCess 'B'....****PRINCESS B ON THE WHEELS OF STEEL IN DOMINICA AUG 2007****PriNCeSs 'B's iNspiRaTion To 'B'eCome a Dj/Selectah came from HeR LoVe for Live Sound System Music during the early 80'ss, where She attended events from as early as aged 13; featuring Reggae Sound Systems like Sir George and Sir Lloyd playing the best in Reggae and LoVers Rock (AuThenTic UK Reggae). She was also iNfLuenCed by sounds like JaVa Sound and the Original Joe 90. JaMaiCan influences came from sounds like STONE LOVE....***NEWS FLASH***NEWS FLASH***DREAM COME TRUE!!...PRINCESS 'B' @ STONE LOVE, WEDDY WEDDY, KINGSTON JAMAICA 07****PiCs BELOW...***KiLLaManJaRo and BaSs OdySsey, where she listened to her Brother, an accomplished Dj, on Sound Tapes where he performed on sounds like JAVA Hi POWER and various Reggae Sound Systems in England...The sounds of the 80's UK Soul Sound sytem era such as SPECIAL EDITION, RAPATTACK and FRESHBEAT had a great influence on my style of selecting...The Original promoters of warehouse Parties/Raves like 'Cheddar' from Notting Hill, West London, were responsible for the Coining of the Phrases 'RAVES' and 'WAREHOUSE PARTIES' in England. These events were originally put on for the local young West London Caribbean Community who were born in England...We had to create our own IDENTITY....PRINCESS 'B' also developed a LoVe for Hip Hop during the same period. Sounds like Master Mind who played @ the NOTTINGHILL CARNIVAL every year, inspired her to become a 'B' GiRL Hip Hop Dancer alongside the local West London 'B' boyz and Poppers of that era...She was ONE OF THE FEW FEMALE FRESSTYLE HIP HOP DANCERS in LONDON during the 80's... She DanCed regularly at stage shows alongside local UK Hip Hop outfits like MiGHTY ETHNICZ, CASH CREW NSO ForCe and also appeared as a Dancer in numerous Music Videos. HER FAVOURITE US HIP HOP ARTISTS OF ALL TIME ARE KRS1 AND PUBLIC ENEMEY..."They played a very significant and influential role in my life and added to the DANCE FLaVour AND MUSICAL SPICE of the 'ORIGINAL PRINCESS 'B''...KRS 1 MARLEY HIP HOP LIVES
..During the early 90's PRINCESS 'B' embarked on a modelling career. Encouraged by local Middle Weight Boxing Champion and sports heroe Tyrone Forbes who comissoned her first portfolio, as at the time she worked as a volunteer fundraiser for his Local American Football 'Pee Wees' team called 'The Powis Prowlers' named after Powis Square in London's 'Lay Low' Ladbroke GroVe in NoTTinGhiLL in WesT LonDon. Her modelling career quickly became short lived as she desired to actively pursue a career in the music industry where she went into business with local entrepeneur and Singer/Song Writer SAM JONES OF 'i'LEVEL and assited in forming 'THE WHOLE WORLD' RECORDS in the early 90's. It was at this point That she realised her TruE CaLLiNG... MUSIC!!...MUSIC!!...MUSIC!!...Another TWO great influenceS in the life of PRINCESS 'B' of which she Became an avid fan and great friends with were the Late GreaT Dj SwinG and MCD, she states "the best Rapper(LyriCally ConCiouS) in the World. Firstly, MOBO Award Winning Dj SwinG and the Boogie Bunch Crew, she states: "He and his Sound System made me Dance, he had great MC skills on the Mic and the TurnTables alike, he was a Great influence and personal inspirtation to me... R.I.P SWinGah 1960's - 2005 (MiSsed, But Never 4goTTeN!...LoVe you Babes, Thanks for the Encouragement and BLeSsed VibeZ...DoNe KnoW..)"In the mid 90's MCD aka SILENT ECLIPSE was the 1st Hip Hop artist to feature PRINCESS 'B' as a top billing Dj/Selectah at his stage show and album launch in Londons premier Hip Hop/Reggae venue (SUBTERANIA) alongside famous dj's like MAX & DAVE of KiSs 100 Fm...She states: " I certainly kept the guys on their toes the way I was juggling that night...Wohh!!"...MCD paved the way for renowned Hip Hop-Reggae artists like BLAK TWANG, ROOTS MANUVA, RODNEY 'P AND SKITZ to feature her LiVe dj/Selectah skills at their album launches and events...At the DAWN of the MiLLeniuM, PRINCESS 'B' felt it was HIGH TIME that anyone who called themself a Hip Hop Dj in EnGLanD should be supporting UK artists more than the US artists. She embarked on her very own quest to raise the profile of UK hip Hop in her own back Yaard. She began to only play UK Hip Hop on the radio and on the club scene, she states " Everyone found it strange at first and kept on asking me how comes I had so much UK Hip Hop to play a whole set, I said I went out looking for the artists and producers myself. Even the artists themselves were fascinated at hearing their own records being played in clubs on a loud Sound System..."Well her initial objective of raising the profile of UK Hip Hop was realised as she played at more and more events, even going on to promote live monthly events of her own like 'IN-FUSION', featuring both established UK Hip Hop and Reggae artists. More and more UK Dj's caught on and began to include more UK cuts in their sets. After hearing a tape of PRINCESS 'B's Fresh Concept and PoLicy of a '100% UK Hip Hop - REGGAE', her Show on PURE DM.COM in 2000 became very popular among the UK Hip Hop fraternity. she was later headhunted by the CReaTorS OF BBC 1 EXTRA to feature on her own UK Hip Hop show...She was shortlisted for the position but alas SKITZ & RODNEY 'P'(Big Name Producer and Artist in UK Hip Hop) , who also enjoyed her show, were selected to do the show. Ironically they presented the very same concept to the producers of the show. PRINCESS 'B' states: "I wished them all the best, I was PiSsed at first, but later realised I had an even GREATER CaLLing...A ROOTICAL FOUNDATION CALLING...OUTERNATIONAL YOU KNOW!..." She laughed at this point and said: " Don't Ask, just Watch This Space"...PRINCESS 'B's LOVE FOR DANCEHALL REGGAE GREW IN THE EARLY 80'S WITH THE EMERGENCE OF ARTISTS LIKE YELLOW MAN,SHABBA RANKS, BOUNTY KILLAH, BUJU BANTON AND SANCHEZ TO NAME A FEW. CULMINATING IN THE LATE 80'S AND EARLY 90'S WITH ARTISTS LIKE TIGER, SUPER CAT, BOUNTY KILLAH, ELEPHANT MAN, CAPLETON, ANTHONY 'B' AND SIZZLA (TOO MUCH TO MENTION)... THE EMERGENCE OF THESE ARTISTS CREATED A DESIRE TO MERGE HER FAVOUITE MUSICAL GENRE OF HIP HOP WITH DANCEHALL IN THE LATE 1990'S. SHE SAY'S "WHEN I STARTED TO PLAY HIP HOP AND DANCEHALL ONE ONE SET IN THE UK, I WAS ASKED BY SHORTIE BLITZ ONE TIME ON AN INTERVIEW WHY I DID THIS, I ANSWERED BY SAYING, YOU JUST PLAYED 'LOST ONES' BY LAURYN HILL ON THIS RADIO SHOW, WHAT MUSICAL GENRE IS THAT THEN?...I REST MY CASE"..SHE WENT ON TO SAY: "HIP HOP AND DANCEHALL ARE ONE AND THE SAME, COOL HERC (AN IMMIGRANT FROM JAMIACA RESIDING IN THE BRONX, NEW YORK CREATED THE CHATTIN OVER BEATS STYLE BACK IN THE 70'S AND DJ'S LIKE AFRIKA BAMBAATA AND GRANDMASTER FLASH HELP THE SOUND ADN MC STYLE TO EVEOLVE, SO WHY THE DEBATE?..I REST MY CASE"... PRINCESS 'B' DESCRIBES HER CURRENT STYLE OF DJ/SELECTAH AS: "THE ROUGH WID THE SMOOTH" SELECTIONS, HENCE THE DOMINANT HIP HOP N' DANCEHALL FLAVOURS IN HER DJ SETS... A DANCER HERSELF IN HER YOUNGER DAYS, PRINCESS 'B' ALSO COMMENTED ON HER LOVE FOR JAMAICAN DANCERS, SLANG AN HYPE CREATORS LIKE SQUAD '1', 'SICK IN HEAD' AND CHiCHING (ALL-STAR) TO NAME A FEW. SHE STATED: "MY TRIP TO JAMIACA IN 2007 BLEW MY MIND, IT WAS LIKE COMING HOME!!...I WAS RIGHT THERE AT PASSA-PASSA AND WEDDY WEDDY WITH MY GOOD FRIEND CHiCHING SHOCKIN OUT WITH ALL THE DANCERS. IT WAS A REAL RE-BIRTH BECASUE I INSTINCTIVELY KNEW ALL THE MOVES FROM MY DANCING DAYS AS A 'B' GIRL IN UK HIP HOP BACK IN THE DAY. I REALISED ALL OVER THE CARIBBEAN AND AFRICA WE ARE ALL CONNECTED CULTURALLY AND GENETICALLY DESPITE THE DISTANCE AND PASSAGES THROUGH HISTORY, TIME AND SPACE...WE ARE ALL CONNECTED BY BLOOD, OUR SPIRIT SPEAKS THROUGH OUR CULTURAL EXPRESSIONS OF MUSIC, SONG AND DANCE...I PUT IT DOWN TO AS CAROLYN COOPER (GREAT SCHOLAR AND PROFESSOR AT THE UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES) STATES: "NOISES IN THE BLOOD"....WE ARE ONE...
