The Capicu Cultural Showcase is a popular and powerful collaboration that is making history in Brooklyn! It is a partnership between the event coordinator PaPo Swiggity and SofritoForYourSoul.com (Urban Jibaro), also supported by some of NYC's most powerful artists & musicians. bWe welcome all styles and poets, though it is themed around our Nuyorican origins.
We are a grassroots cultural house of poetry and performing arts.
For the open mic and cultural show, we use the space once a month in Notice Lounge, one of the neighborhoods premiere mid sized bars, located securely across the street from the 90th Police Precinct.
We also have a bi-weekly online radio show for the global community, here you can listen to some of our archived shows: http://www. blogtalkradio. com/radiocapicu .
Our mantra is that we educate & entertain, in order to culturally enrich and empower the neighborhood’s sense of self.
In December 2007, we created the Pa’L Pueblo Toy Drive, which helped bring toys to over 100 children at a Bushwick United Headstart school.
In February 2008, we brought legendary author Piri Thomas (of Down These Mean Streets) to our venue for the people of Brooklyn.
However, our visitors have come from as far out as California to perform or catch our shows.. Come see why!
We've been reaching out to all spoken word poets across the nation (established and on the rise), College students and many others we thought would like to lend support.
Join us on a Friday of every month for the stageshow- In BROOKLYN! Friday May 30th
We hope to see you there!
