I write . The twang live @ Concorde 2 9th may 2007The Twang are one of the most hyped bands of the year. Everyone has made obvious comparisons to the happy Mondays, and after seeing them live I can clearly see why. Basically they are all wreck heads from inner city centres (Birmingham) , and well older. Any how the venue was sold out and the place was filled up with what could of been mistaken as a collective off football fans, (maybe they went the wrong way) . As soon as the twang bounced onto the stage and kicked into their first song it was obvious the football fans had not gone the wrong way they were here for that much hyped twang factor. With the beer flowing everywhere from the word go and guys in their forties just “having it large” on the dance floor. It was time to watch and see this, “Twang factor“. I must admit I was disappointed, but do not get me wrong they are a very entertaining band to watch live, funny almost. What with the backing singer looking completely out of it and his random grasps at the leader singer’s torso. I really admire the passion and desire of the band to get everyone up and dancing and just have a good time, and of course get everyone really drunk.I think it is this that has caught the mainstream eye and beckoned them on to potentially big things, “The twang experience” It was almost like a roller coaster really, very fast paced loads of attitude and sweat. Sometimes the backing singer would start dancing round the stage and it has to be said it almost looked tribal. There was one surprise face mingling in with the audience with a very big body guard, The Streets very own Mike Skinner. (It has been rumoured he will be covering one of their songs.)They have some really great songs, though is has to be said they do all sound quite similar, stand out ones were “either way”, “Neighbour” and “2 lovers” Which was very much in the style of Kasbian. The true highlight was and everyone knew it was coming was, “Cloudy room” Which is a stomper of a tune. They saved that one for the encore. If they can write more tunes like these who knows maybe they will last longer than “The others”. This band will go down a treat at this year’s music festivals that’s for certain. They sure know how to entertain a crowd. But as for them being the next stone roses, well I doubt it. Next happy Mondays, sure they are. You only have to see them to see that. If you get a chance to see this band play live go and see for yourself and check the twang vibe. After all its only entertainment and they are very good funny entertainers.
