The GoodShip Venus began when Samir Ansari and Ben Woodhead were working in a Videoshop. One day Ben heard Atomic Kitten’s ’Whole Again’ played out on the radio and dreamed of how much he would love to make music like that. Samir also saw this dream and began searching the land for someone with the vocal range of Kerry Katona...He stumbled upon a smartly dressed Irish Tin whistle player in Bromley named Stefan Wojciechowski.
The 3 piece began playing gigs across the North London scene and one day came into contact with the 4-time Arm Wrestling champion of Las Vegas ’Ciaron Toner’. He was very talented and could play The Piano, Violin and Bass guitar, all at the same time. He joined the band momentarily but this wasn’t to last long. On March 28th 2007 Ciaron Toner was struck by lightning and was told he could never play Atomic Kitten again. The band were mortified. Without Ciaron they could not do the harmony in Bminor at the end of "Eternal Flame". In stepped Robert Coakly. Some say he has ripped a phone book with just two of his toes. Others say his teeth are cast from the souls of a thousand virgins - all we know is that he can shred a bass like no-ones business. The band hired him straight away and began touring with him, only to find that he couldn’t sing.
With all of this against them, the band decided to write some of their own stuff instead and just let Stefan do the singing. Ben quickly learned to master the drums and Samir reluctantly picked up a dusty old guitar he found in his loft.
The GoodShip Venus was born.
