After many years of studying the great Matrix trilogy, twin brothers Sam and Jake felt they needed something else in their lives. Writing and scripting the prequel and the fourth Matrix film was not enough, they needed more, there was something missing.
The answer soon came in the form of old friend and spiritual guide Laurie ‘the tremelo’
Sherman. Upon returning from one of his bi-yearly trips to a Shaolin monastery in southern China Laurie informed the twins that while on his travels he had been fortunate enough to meditate in the presence of current shaolin master Su Xi. During this meditation a vision came to him, it was that of a band but no ordinary band, a band of which the music will be played on strange looking and even stranger sounding instruments. A band that most will laugh at but eventually they will bow down to.
The band will consist of many but they will not come immediately, one shall be old, one shall be tall, one pleasant to the male eye and finally a rhythm maker will come.
After many days of research and inner thought the three young men finally unraveled the riddle hidden amongst the vision. Firstly the music would be Bluegrass (sort of).
Secondly they would have to ask themselves ‘Where will this band come from, we have no friends?’
Their First recruit was their own personal leader, Father Leonard. He was older, wiser and maybe he would have friends. They were wrong on all accounts, but he played a mean rhythm guitar and had shit loads of records to
borrow.
After acquiring the necessary ‘strange‘ instruments (banjo, mandolin. Believe me they are strange to anyone in West london) and a not so strange electric guitar they spent many months searching for chords and friends. They found three chords and fewer friends but within days of joining these ‘friends' would leave without warning.
Eventually over time the band came together with Tom ‘bass man’ Wright on bass, Nella ‘angel voice’ Johnson and Rupert ‘the rhythm factory’ Sheeve on drums.
Many a year has past since those primitive days.
Three albums have been written, recorded and released on their own Record label BB Records. A single has been committed to Vinyl. Quests around our fair isle of Britain have been taken with fellow visionaries such as Jack Penate, Adele, Sam Beer and many others. They have graced many a stage throughout our great capital(Londinium) including festivities such as The Camden Crawl, Standon Calling and have even had the joy of visiting other great cities such as Austin for the prestigious South By South West Festival and a pit stop visit to the city that never sleeps, New York.
Their songs have even graced the airwaves thanks to DJ's such as Bob Harris, Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson and Sean Rowley.
Yet after all this still they insist on three chords. The Quest continues.
