Now, our bio.....
Bands like this don't need to try; it's just there. - Is This Music? Magazine on You Already Know.
You Already Know started gigging in April 2005. The line-up of Allan Swan (singer, songwriter, guitarist), Keef Thorburn (guitar & backing vocals), Stef Lach (bass) and Dunc Sweeny (drums) are based in Glasgow and have produced a body of work that will see the band push new heights throughout 2006.
The band describe their style as heartfelt rock, a self-effacing title that is too simple for their music. A colossal range of influences lies at the heart of this innovative band, among others ghosts of Pink Floyd and Nirvana jostle for sound space with David Bowie, The Pixies and Gang of Four. This myriad of influences are cross pollinated with You Already Knows rock roots, resulting in a truly unique style, separate from anything else on the Scottish scene. With a pedigree that encompasses all tastes the intricate and versatile rhythms, reminiscent of Fugazi are laced around powerful sharp melodies. Allan's bittersweet lyrics open each song and bring the audience to their side immediately.
Onstage You Already Know are as high energy as their music. Tracks like Wake Up and Behind Closed Doors goad the band into action as fast as they do the audience. The dynamic performances coupled with sincere and enchanting lyrics leave the audience captivated till the final chord stops and calm is restored.
The band supported the Deftones at the Carling Academy in Summer 2006, playing to a crowd of over 1500 to great acclaim, and shortly after, supported the Fratellis and Union of Knives at Glasgow's QMU. The Scotsman described the bands sound as Snub-nosed riffs and driving rhythms jostled with angular melodies in a sound that recalled the spirit of defunct hardcore heroes Quicksand. Lick Magazine says ...looks certain to become a staple of Scotlands rock radio play-lists. and Skinny Magazine think that You Already Know are exciting prospects for Scottish hard rock in the offing.
Their limited debut 7" and three-song EP are available now via mail order, online and in Scottish indie stores. A Scottish tour is slowly being put together, with a full UK jaunt and European dates to follow.
Audio and Video downloads are available from the Y.A.K.website.
Review of Henry's Cellar, Edinburgh 26/7/06 in The Scotsman
Having recently supported US metal heavyweights The Deftones, it's clear that Glasgow's You Already Know are doing something of note. Snub-nosed riffs and driving rhythms jostled with angular melodies in a sound that recalled the spirit of defunct hardcore heroes Quicksand. Ones to watch.
Review of Carling Academy 8/6/06 : Skinny Magazine
Glaswegian rockers You Already Know perfectly compliment Sacramento's Deftones in advance of their entrance this evening... and produce sufficient goods to whet the appetites of its inhabitants; exciting prospects for Scottish hard rock in the offing.
Review of 2005's "Guiding Light" demo in Is This Music? Magazine
If you close your eyes you can almost imagine how good they will be on stage; you can almost see that raw passion oozing out of every pore. Bands like that don't need to try; it's just there.
Review of Oran Mor 4th June show by Lick Magazine
The set is peppered with golden moments; the heady crunch of Dead Inside still packs a punch but its the shimmering Crystal Clear that steals the limelight.....it looks certain to become a staple of Scotlands rock radio play-lists.
