Hi there, and thanks to take a look at my space here. Am an italo-belgian guitarist with a particular interest in 2 countries/cultures that have & are influencing me from long time : Brazil & Sweden. I grew up in Liège-Belgium, the town of the regretted René Thomas, so of course I had to play the guitar.Active as jazz guitarist in Brussels from the late 90ties, I have created the free 4 quintet, and my own trio (Robban C trio), but I actually mostly played as sideman...sigh ! From 2005 on, I'm living in Italy, to finally be able to WORK a bit more, as Brussels was such a funny town, too much of fun there and no energy left to work the instrument ! On the other side, I also play bass, piano, percussions, harmonium, ud and trumpet...but once more...not enough...*S*. Let's hope I'm soon finding my way !!! (I do believe I'm on the right one, actually...).After having played as sideman for some time, I had the idea to put all together my own compositions and select some new standards I wanted to play with a own band. That's why I asked my best friends Dan Leblanc (ones of the most talented "mature" drummers of Brussels) and Gaetan Vullo (bassist active into the jazz, african & salsa music in Brussels) to join me for a trio based on my own music. Later, the group grew up and add Cédric Wallesse (ones of the most interesting young saxofonists of Brussels) to compone the "Free 4 quartet" that occasionaly extend to a quintet with a singer (Claire Dossin) or a pianist depending on the occasions. Now, I'm based in Italy (Cesena, close to Bologna) and work on several projects (ethno music, european jazz and bossa nova), in studio also and I'm still active with this quartet touring mostly through Belgium, Germany and Italy (festivals, jazz-clubs, cultural events and arts galleries).During all these years in Brussels and around, I have got the chance to play with several musicians, sometimes quite unknown, sometimes getting sporadic collaborations with great musicians as Toots Thielemans, Wynton Marsalis, J-L Rassinfosse, Anu Junnonen, Stefano Calvano...On beside of music, I'm also working as an artistic agent (in the music field mostly) and as business develloper/consultant (on projects). I do love cinema (Tarantino, Tornatore, Allen, Scorzese, Auteuil, Fellini, Pasolini, Bergman...), reading (Coelho, Maalouf, Eco, Auster...), sport (tennis, squash, biking, beach soccer...), philosophy (Finkielkraut, Kierkegaard, Levi-Strauss, Kundera...), travelling, geography, arts history and chess, a.o. Have a special passion for languages : I do have the chance to be able to talk within 6 languages fluently and some 5 other ones (badly then!).Thanks again for the patience in reading this. Peace.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: myspace.com/robbancfree4quartet
Band Members:Robban C - guitars, ud, trumpet, bass, contrabass, piano, harmonium, tabla, congas / Dan Leblanc - drums / Gaetan Vullo - bass / Cedric Favresse - sax
Influences: My style (if I ought to think I have one !) is maybe not of the most impressive one : I like to introspect the inner side of my compositions as if they were paintings (have about 25 own compositions...) and the virtuoso side (that I don't think to owe - I never worked enough by the past !) is maybe (hopfully!) compensated by different colours and tensions I try to give to my compositions. My major inflluences are : the 3 John's (Abercrombie, Mc Laughlin, Scofield), Toninho Horta, Filip Catherine, Peter Hertmans, Joe Pass, Ralph Towner, René Thomas, John Taylor, Kenny Wheeler and Ivan Lins. But I am very far from them !!! Also, am influenced by classical music (Debussy, Ravel, Bach, Villa-Lobos..) and contemporan music (Brouwer, Cages). By the end, I do believe that Arts have a major influence on my approach to music. In fact, I do love to play at Arts' exhibitions' starts. I love Klint, Schiele, Klee, Cézanne, Kandinsky... and I'm mad on architecture (Le Corbusier, Horta...). Otherwise, I do love to listen to Kevin Eubanks, Kenny Kirkland, Enrico Rava, Freddie Hubbard, Flavio Boltro, Joe Henderson, Erwin Vann, Rosario Giuliani, Dado Moroni, Eliane Elias, Danilo Perez, Bill Evans, Ritchie Beirach, Nathalie Loriers, Dave Holland, Miroslav Vitous, Marc Johnson, Eddie Gomez, Peter Erskine, Trilok Gurtu, Daniel Humair, Roberto Gatto, Chico Pinheiro, Milton Nascimento, Djavan, Flora Purim, Guinga, Bebel Gilberto, Viktoria Tolstoy, Astor Piazzola, Paco De Lucia, Nino Rota, Pino Daniele, Mahavishnu orchestra, Miles, Erik Truffaz, Urszula Dudziak, all ECM productions, Erikah Baduh, Madonna, Noa, Eva Dahlgren, Michel Jonasz, Claude Nougaro, Stevie Wonder, Eagles,Alessandro, Zio Carmelo and my beloved father !
Sounds Like: You will tell... Take also a look to the work that my dear friend Nette from Bonn (she's such an interesting artist) made for me : http://www.schwindt-art.com/galerie/acryl/robsdisc.html Maybe the cover of my next album...
