I was an educator for many years, but after a major life altering event back in 2004,I had to take a hard look at my life and I had to make some serious decisions. I studied Wing Chun Kung Fu for 8 years, but finally reached a point where I had to part ways with my teacher. However, it was a wonderful period in my life and if nothing else, it taught me the value of focus and discipline.I've also dabbled in Amok and Bakbakan Filipino stick and knife fighting as well as Shotokan Karate.I've been active on the South African music scene for many years now, and have in recent years been concentrating on top level corporate entertainment primarily. All of this including some of my client list can be seen at my website at : www.lightyearsmusic.co.zaI've performed internationally as well as nationally, with many highlights, including the Common Wealth Games in Malaysia where I got to blow with asian drum icon Lewis Pragasam, The first inauguration banquet for President Thabo Mbeki, The Million Dollar Golf tournament at Sun City where I perform regularly, The President's Cup Golf Tournament at Fancourt, the Afro-Arab trade fair, as well as as performances in Prague, Warsaw, Gdynia Summer Jazz days festival ( where I opened up for John McLaughlin and the Free Spirits), Moscow, Budapest,Portugal and more.Together with my band, I've also been the support act for Irakere and Shakatak during their South African performances.Through the course of my career, I have been priviledged and honored to work with wonderful artists such as: Regina Carter, Donald Harrison Jnr, the late Carl Andersen,Johnny Fourie considered the greatest jazz guitarist to emerge from South Africa, Bakhiti Khumalo, Vusi Khumalo, Victor Masondo, The National Symphony orchestra, Efrain Toro, Rush Hour,Estelle Kokot, Professor James Houlik, etc.I've also had the honor of composing the grand finale for the World Summit on Sustainable Development closing ceremony held in South Africa a few years ago.Among the musicians whom I work with are Brendan Ross, Neill Ettridge, Deni Lalouette, Andrew Massey, Veronique Lalouette, Annette Louwe, Claire Johnston and Mango Groove, and many others.Besides playing music, I dabble in writing poetry and some of my work can be found online at www.poetry.com under the name Avzal Ismail.I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 and pimp my space. My Interests

Music especially Jazz and Latin Jazz. Afro-Cuban music, reading, playing hold 'em poker, archery, I've recently taken to golf, Aston Martin cars (I don't own any), gym and martial arts. I love travel and I enjoy photography as well.

I'd like to meet:

CHICK COREA!!!! Fellow musicians, performers and artists.Hold 'Em Poker enthusiasts, golf enthusiasts and people who wish to contribute in a positive way towards making this world a better place for all living creatures. After all, we're sharing this planet and it's time we learned to get along.Definitely a sponsor, or investor/silent partner who is willing to help me make my dream of owning a jazz club / coffee bar in Europe come true. Someone with vision who is willing to take a chance on me. Lest we forget..We are only preserving this heritage for future generations. How will they look back at us? As the great civilisation who left behind a legacy to preserve for ever or in the words of Sabah Douglas-Hamilton "that greedy ape"? Please feel free to leave comments. Communication is the KEY to understanding!..
