SoulStone was founded by three key members, Kenton Windvogel, Shaun Parsons and Clint Brink while working at the SABC in 2oo5. They had different job descriptions at the time despite being aspiring musicians.
Windvogel a.k.a Kent Smoke worked as a Props Department Manager at Isidingo while Parsons a.k.a Soulo worked as a Graphic Artist for SABC 1, 2, and 3. Brink a.k.a Primetime, persued his acting career on SABC’s no.1 show Generations as the bar manager Bradley Paulse.
Fate brought the three closer and soon they shared their passion for music by having listening, writing and singing sessions. It was soon discovered that all three were multi-instrumentalist, arrangers, composers, songwriters and singers of high quality with the drive to prove their own musical eclectic expression in a saturated, biased and generally thin music industry.
It was then decided to start an independent label after numerous attempts at approaching major record labels were in vain. Labels who's only excuse was not having the knowledge to market their individual projects due to their chosen genre…R&B/Soul.
The trio then joined forces determined to pursue careers as successful musicians.
SoulStone’s sound is heavily influenced by great musical pioneers like Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Prince, George Benson with the youth and exuberance of local and international artists and bands such as Jonathan Butler, Brian McKnight, Mint Condition, The Dave Mathews Band, Boyz II Men, D’angelo and many more.
Not limiting their creative hunger for musical excellence, SoulStone as a band, also reproduces sounds of Reggae, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Neo Classic Soul and R&b with effortless transition.
