At 17 he wrote and recorded two songs for Radio Algoa that were used as “signature†tunes. Later that year he won the prize for “best all-round talent†at the Eastern Capes ‘On The Go Show’.
After high school he moved to Pretoria to join the Air force band.
In 1995 he took some time off from the SANDF and attended Berklee College of music in Boston U.S.A where he completed the Berklee performance program and was awarded a scholarship to return. He began working with a local jazz band called Light Years, which includes of some of the country’s top session musicians: Denny Lalouette, Neill Ettridge, and Avzal Ismail.
In 1998 he was invited to play at the Commonwealth games in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia with the Vusi Khumalo band.
Brendan joined the Johnny Clegg band in 2000. He's was a member of Johnny's band until June 2006, touring extensively in Europe, North America, Asia and the UK. The 2005/6 world tours started in France and ended in Australia/New Zealand and JHB. Highlights included: - guest performances with Peter Gabriel, Robert Plant and Brian May. - headlining the 46664 2005 concerts in George, SA, and Tromso (Norway). -Playing at Nelson Mandela's 80th Birthday- opening the Montreal jazz fest to an audience of 125 000 people. - summerfest in Florida with Jimmy Buffet guesting. - double bill shows with Lenny Kravitz, the Neville Brothers, Art Garfunkel, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Taj Mahal.
Brendan also plays music for corporate events and private functions. Some of the large corporate institutions he has played for include: Investec, Standard, ABSA banks, Spar , BMW, VW, Toyota, Vodacom, MTN, Engen, Shell, The Fanourt annual ball(twice), Microsoft SA, British American Tobacco SA… to name a few.
Brendan is currently working on occasion with South Africa's Best selling Male Afrikaans artist Theuns Jordaan And female artist Juanita Duplessis.
In 2003 he played the sax theme for the popular television series Isidingo. (still running)
In 2006 he wrote and recorded the channel logo music for SABC Africa witch will be broadcast from March 2007.
