Cedar Block

The particles have been getting smashed (not me).

About Me

Cedar Block is the presenter of odd little events in Milwaukee, which fall outside of the usual band performance, art opening, play, film screening, or lecture, and usually with a unique set of rules for participants. These events are designed to make life more interesting for all of this city's wonderful residents.
Some events are very straightforward (the Weird Science programs are science fairs for grown-ups), and some take a bit of explaining ("Bruce Nauman 101" was a bunch of creative-types presenting their homework based on Nauman's work, which we assigned to them and then presented in the medium of their choice).
It is our mission to provide a venue for as many residents of the Milwaukee area as possible in which they may be creative, whether they are a trained and practicing artist, or someone who has never picked up a paintbrush or guitar but still has something to say.
In addition to events, there will exist a number of opportunities for members of the community to contribute to writing, video, and audio projects in the coming months, so please check in to this page and to cedarblock.com for updates. You may also email [email protected] to subscribe to a monthly email newsletter, which is where all announcements are first made for upcoming events and projects.
We began doing these things in August 2005, and have presented seven very successful public events in that time. We are very excited for the future due to the support of the community, the media, and institutions such as the Milwaukee Art Museum.
