Eleil lazo, 17 years oldWith: Herbie Hancok, Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade, Dianne Rives, Dave Holland and others.Eliel Williams Lazo Linares, born in Havana City, Cuba, the 1st of November 1983 and winner of Percuba International Award 2003, at the age of 19 years old, is today one of the most interesting percussionists of his generation. He has already caused great impact in both small and large international stages. He started his studies at the age of 12 years old, when his father took him to professor Oscar Valdes, former singer and percussionist of "Irakere". His first professional concert was with the group "Diákara", under the direction of Mr. Oscar Valdez, his professor. He started to participate in international events at the age of 17. Untill now he has been playing in festivals like: Habana Jazz Festival, in Cuba, Pori jazz festival, Imatra Big Band Festival and April jazz festival in Finland, Stockholm Jazz Festival in Sweden, Copenhagen -, Aarhus -, Nova jazz festival and Roskilde festival in Denmark, Huis Tem Buch, Tokio jazz and Yokohama jazz festival in Japan, Gourmet Jazz Festival in Saint Martin and others. Eliel has shared stage and taught among stars as: Oscar Valdes, John Patitucci, Louis Bellson, Jeff Ballard, Tata Guines, Bill Stewart, Chucho Valdez, Jose Luis Quintana (Changuito), Airto Moreira, Flora Purin, Carlos del Puerto, Danish Radio bigband, BBC bigband of London and Bob Mintzer. One of the greatest moments for Eliel was the pleasure to be invited by the great master Herbie Hancock, to be a part of the Super Unit, in Tokyo jazz 2004, together with Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade, Dianne Rives, David Holland and others. He has recorded with many Cuban, American and European musicians. You can fx. find him on “Cuban Flavour” (with Danish Radio Big Band), “Blanco y Negro” (with great musicians from Cuba and Denmark), "Andante" with Habana Ensemble and "Impacto cubano" (with Carlos del Puerto). His own project is called “Art Ensemble of Habana”. In this album he had the pleasure to play together with the great piano master Chucho Valdez and the percussionist and singer Oscar Valdes. At the moment he is playing with Art Ensemble of Habana, Blanco y Negro, Habana Ensemble, Sp Just frost, Impacto Cubano, DR big band, KNA connected, Bo Stief and others.
