Percussionist musician Ralph Santos presents his latest project “JUNGLE BOOK†following several musical experiences both in the jazz terrain and in the Afro-Latin-Brazilian arena, in which he works as a researcher of folkloric-rhythmic roots that he then applies in his original work and collaborations.Of special mention are his contributions in numerous projects for renowned Spanish and foreign artists. While studying law at the University of Zaragoza, Santos began experimenting with his music drawing on jazz and standarts musical forms as a member of the Equinoccio band in the 80’s. Tours with “Equinoccio†allowed him to experience a wide and colourist view of the Standarts and Jazz in general, while at the same time applying his own tendencies in this field. Later on this experience allowed him to work with numerous figures of the Spanish and American jazzÃstic fields of the 90’s, playing with Joaquin Chacón, Polo OrtÃ, Joan Bibiloni, Javier Mora, “La Calle Calienteâ€, Tomás Bohórquez, Bobby MartÃnez, Jaime Márquez, Orquesta Nacional de Jazz, Chano DomÃnguez, Argelia Fragoso, Luis Depestre, Gemma y Pavel, Omar Sosa and J.R.Mestre. While at the same time playing as percussionist (conguero) in several Latin music bands such as Havana Conexión, Guayuco, Salsagoza, Dile que si, etc.In 2000 Santos participates in the Seminar VII Curso Internacional de Percusión, Cocentaina 2000 as an instructor on Afro-Latin percussion, having the privilege to teach with figures such as Julio Barreto, Dave Welck and John Bergamio.During 2001 and 2002 Santos continued to perform frequent live collaborations with well-known artists such as Javier Vargas, J. L. Perales, etc.Inspired by a composition by Wayne Shorter titled “Shere Khan, the Tiger†based on the book by Rudyard Kipling, Ralph Santos’ current album “JUNGLE BOOK†wishes to pay a tribute to his former band “Equinoccioâ€; “JUNGLE BOOK†is a ballad in defence of Nature and its endangered species, many of which are already on the verge of extinction.
