About Me

the members of fromanhole have composed music together, constantly, since 1991. their first instruments were hand-me-downs or from a pawnshop. they taught themselves how to play, together, by writing songs, together. consisting of three brothers, two blood, one adopted, fromanhole is daryl kiser (guitar, voice), doug kiser (bass, voice), and doug berger (drums).fromanhole has been what it is now, since 1997. they have played many shows, including the midpoint music festival in cincinnati, ohio and have opened for such bands as smart went crazy, breather resist, don caballero, up up down down, 31 knots, houston, season to risk, the holy ghost, anamude, house of large sizes, neva dinova, ravine, lewis and clarke, evil beaver and mercy rule.fromanhole’s sound is most accurately described as abstract. the members’ consider their art as cerebral, more like the sounds one might hear inside when looking at or creating a painting or sculpture. if asked to name their sound they would call it: angular art rock. they pride their songs as an exploration of rhythm, making them textural, surrounding the listener like a blanket, or angular, eluding and defying instant gratification. when writing a song, a structure is never assumed... for the sake of what sound can be.DISCOGRAPHY:on found tape, 1998...self-titled ep, 2000...decline of midwestern civilization, compilation cd, 2001...out of the flats, 2002...split 7" w/ the quiet type, 2003...untitled, 2005...

Sounds Like: "hinting at everything from hardcore to experimental jazz, omaha trio fromanhole crafts beautifully disjointed pieces that hold on to their visceral snap during even the most sudden twists. the band uses just bass, drums and guitar to fill a great deal of space, and despite the 'experimental' label, a very basic focus on rhythm and melody is the bands' true strength." staff writer - the onion - madison, wi“fromanhole didn't get on until about a quarter after 12 and played right up until closing -- their typical set of intricate, trance-inducing angular riffage anchored atop the drummer's scatter-shot, muscular sound -- his constant time-shifts and off-kilter syncopation sounded like a string of ladyfingers going off in the bar. fromanhole is always fun to watch because all three players intensely examine each other for visual cues to the next break. this type of music demands precision or else it would turn into a jumbled mess. talking to bassist doug kiser, i think the band knows that their sound will always be a hard sell in this town, and yet they continue to manage to draw sizable crowds to their shows. here's hoping they keep on keeping on.” tim mcmahan, lazy-i.com
