I was born and bred in Penzance, Cornwall; a beautiful part of the world and I advise anyone reading this to go.(Right thats my bit for Westcountry tourism done, I'll move on).Realising that if I stayed I would spend the rest of my life lying on a beach staring at the sea, I decided I had to leave. At the time I was working in a CD shop, not a bad job for an out of work musician, as you get to listen to tunes all day albeit not your own. Deciding I wanted it to be my CD's on those shelves myself and a friend embarked on a dream chasing trip to Dublin...to busk. Our parents viewed this as an odd career move what with the lack of steady income and no pension plan but we did it nonetheless. In the next year we played lots of music, met lots of people and drank lots of...well anything. Eventually the hangover began to set in and with more than a few songs under my belt I left, - destination Porthcawl, South Wales. It appears that on my way over I sold my soul as I found myself in a Cabaret band. We spent the next year playing in a holiday park and then on a ferry. It was a great experience that left me with steady sea legs, many more songs, lots of tattoos and an appreciation for how life can deliver you into the strangest of situations. If anyone had told me that I would have been playing on a ferry travelling to France three times a day I would have told them to bugger off! After meeting up with my old friend and musician Simon Gynn we once again decided to hit Dublin to make a few quid (or Euro). In support of the Irish economy we gave most of those euros back to the public houses of Dublin in exchange for many nights 'craic'.In one of my more sober moments I found myself in a singing competition which took me all over Ireland and finally to a meeting that would prove pivotal in my development as a musician. It was with Nigel Smith and Simon that I recorded the demo's you are (hopefully) listening to now. It was one of the happiest, most creative, heart-wrenching and inspiring times of my life and I left the project with a greater understanding of myself and a love of jaffa cakes. If either of you are reading this, thankyou and I love you. (Thats just incase I don't get to make my award acceptance speech).I fell in love with Belfast and decided to stay. I spend my days writing, playing, doing yoga and making faces out of fish fingers, pasta, and beans for my angel with the crazy red hair.I'm working in a band at the moment and although it's early days I'm pretty confident of the direction we're taking. I'm lucky to have met such a talented bunch of musicians. There's a demo/album in the pipeline but we're happy to take our time with it. I've found that the best things really do come to those who wait.
