The Minority, formed in 2007, hail from Belfast, London and Leeds. The driving forces behind the band are co-writers Tim Murphy and Alan Ladd who met at Queen's University Belfast in 2002. Since then, they have been writing songs and collaborating with various musicians until they were joined by Kenny Harrower on drums and for guest appearances live and on record by Rick McKee on Lead Guitar. Rachael Moore, a drummer also from Leeds, joined the band for their recent UK Tour, playing in 11 cities, headlining and also supporting bands such as 'Stateless' and 'Tom White' of Electric Soft Parade and Brakes. The Minority have had their music played on various radio stations and podcasts in the past year. The track 'She' featured in The Trash Society Unsigned Volume 3 which is association with XFm and Artrocker and 'Can't Have Everything' will be on the next Bruised Fruit UITA compilation. Their sound is a fusion of Tim's influences of singer-songwriters and bands such as Ryan Adams, David Kitt and REM and Alan's love of indie rock bands and classical music, most notably Radiohead, Elbow and Doves. The result is a unique style that is difficult to compare or place in any genre. Alan and Tim continue to write, record and produce new material in their home studio in North Belfast and plan to gig extensively throughout Ireland this year.
