Kris Jefferson was born in Brooklyn New York, and grew up in Jamaica Queens, where many musicians resided. He began playing drums at the age of 12, then tried his hand at guitar, then eventually moving on to bass when he was 14. This was due mostly to hearing Stanley Clarke, then a few years later, Jaco Pastorious.
In the early 80's, Jaco Pastorious introduced him to Manoel Monteiro and Ron De'Francesco, where he learned Brazilian rhythms, which solidified his concept of grooving. Kris is a self taught musician with a long history in the New York City music scene, playing gigs and recording with many musicians in a wide variety of styles. He has shared the stage or recorded with Olu Dara, Hiram Bullock, Aaron Comess, Phil Magallanes, Eric Schenkman, Delmar Brown, Michael Zentner, Keith Carlock, Popa Chubby, Alex Foster, Jerry Gonzalez, Miguel Kertsman, Ric Molina, William Galison, Dave Matos, Nils Wogram, Bill Simms, Lou Marini, Winston Grennan, Arnie Lawrence and many others. Kris has also appeared in videos of Eros Ramazotti, Stuttering John (Howard Stern) and Apollo 440.
In 2002 Kris moved to the Netherlands now lives in Vienna, where he recently began working on original music with Hubert Tubbs
