JC Smith was born and still resides in the Asbury Park, New Jersey area.
In the late 1970’s & 1980’s, The Asbury Park music scene was huge. Artists like "Bruce Springsteen" and "Southside Johnny & The Asbury Jukes" opened the doors for other artists playing original music. It was a place where local bands blossomed, national acts were discovered and on any given night you could find a young JC standing in front of the stage in rock clubs like “The Fast Lane†& “The Stone Ponyâ€, observing the best music lessons available anywhere. Currently Asbury Park is under going a beautiful resurrection and JC is finally doing what he was meant to be doing: Performing great music!
JC's musical strength comes from his ability to communicate human ambivalence with a level of wisdom and emotional honesty only true living can bring. With a soulful confident singing voice along with an insightful human perspective depicting both the agonies and joys of human relationships, he seems to pull out his lyrics from somewhere deep within.
JC truly wears his heart on both of his sleeves. Concentrating on life's delicate complexities and everyday moments of passion, hope and despair, he seems to know how to look regret and guilt in the eye without losing site of life’s possibilities and he accomplishes this with a liberating edge and raw grace.
We will ever so slowly be attempting to add more information and music to this site. We're currently facing the problem where JC has locked himself into his therapist's office refusing to get up from the couch. We are hoping that a combination of jabs with a cattle prod along with a lure of tequila will remedy this situation. Until then, look for JC on tour explaining and keep checking back for further information on this rising artist and true image of Asbury Park’s future music scene.
