It Took a Lifetime to Learn to Draw Like a Child!

About Me

When I was a kid, my school took a trip to the art museum. At nine years old, I thought abstract art was a joke and artists were fooling people. So when we got back to school from the museum, I drew a picture of bathtubs flying in the sky as a sort of joke. I showed the picture to my friends, laughed, and threw the drawing in the trash. My teacher, Mrs. Graham, took me out into the hallway, and said, "Why did you throw that picture away?" She said, "You are going to be a great artist someday". I believed her.Now I'm older, and I don't think abstract art is a joke, but I do still think some artists are fooling people. Art is about INTEGRITY. Art is not only about painting an apple that looks just like a real apple. Art is about expressing the things that defy being expressed. Here are a few of my paintings: "The Starry Night", 72"x72", acrylics on canvas

My Interests

To all my friends from around the world: Thank you for looking at my art!

ARTIST'S STATEMENT: My art is an exploration into the way we PERCEIVE time and space.
One way that I explore space perception is to cut holes in a top canvas to reveal a painting underneath. This, in effect, creates a "window in space", revealing a plane beyond another plane.

I try to make three-dimensional elements of my art look two-dimensional. I also try to make two dimensional flatness look three-dimensional. I like to blur the definition of what is a painting and what is a sculpture. I'm searching for the elusive fourth dimension, that grey area between the reality we can touch, and the perceived reality in our brain. I believe the fourth dimension is not located beyond the third dimension, but somewhere in between the second and third dimensions.
"The Fabric of Time", acrylics and rope on canvas, 36"x36"
"Untitled", brushes, acrylics, window screen on wood, 24"x48"
"Angel" acrylics on canvas, 18"x24"
"Autumn Screen", acrylics, leaves, grass, on wood. 79"x 96"

I'd like to meet:

People who love art, people who don't understand art, people who say, "My five year old child could paint better than that". I invite all friends to post art in the comments section.
