Reports from The Inquirer, as well as other sources, are suggesting that MLS has already chosen Philadelphia to become the 16th franchise and that an official announcement could come Thursday, 2/28 in the City of Chester.

News On the Stadium Plan in Chester, PA 1/31/2008

A large step towards an expansion team appears likely to happen. Forty-Seven million dollars' worth of funding for the proposed redevelopment plan which includes a soccer-specific stadium on the Chester waterfront is being pledged by Pennsylvania state government officials as announced at a press conference on Thursday, January 31 by Gov. Ed Rendell. This has long been regarded as the final large hurdle to overcome in Philadelphia's bid for the next expansion team in Major League Soccer.

League officials are still in talks with the potential ownership group for the Phladelphia franchise and updates are said to be soon forthcoming by Commisioner Don Garber.
