Nothing blocks the chance of success more than the fear of failure

About Me

Tack själv till min vännerna och all sann England solfjäder. Median slog inte oss. De rättvis fik inne om väg lite? Official site for Sven-Göran Aune Eriksson. (Thank you to my assistant Borje who has put this page together for me. I hope it may be of interest to football fans and all my friends.)For anyone interested in my history and career, you may also like to follow this link?http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals /3930353.stmA summary of my history within the great game of football follows:*IFK Gothenburg – won Swedish cup in first season. Won domestic double and the UEFA Cup in 1982, beating Hamburg 4-0 on aggregate. *Moved to Benfica in 1982 and won the domestic double in first season. Retained championship next season. *Left Portugal for AS Roma in 1984 and was in charge for three years, bringing the Coppa Italia to the Olympic Stadium in 1986. *Managed Fiorentina from 1987 to 1989 before returning to Benfica. The "Portugeuse giants" were runners-up to AC Milan in the European Cup a year later, but won the Portugeuse league title in 1991. *In charge of Sampdoria from 1992 to 1997, winning the Coppa Italia in 1994 with a squad that contained David Platt. *Moved to Lazio and enjoyed a period of great success for the Rome club. Domestically, the pinnacle was winning the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia in 2000, having already won the cup two years earlier. (While I was with them, Lazio were also the last ever winners of the European Cup Winner’s Cup, beating Mallorca 2-1 at Villa Park in 1999. They then went on to win the European Super Cup later that year, beating Manchester United in Monaco thanks to a single goal from Marcelo Salas. Lazio had reached the 1998 UEFA Cup final but were runners up to a Ronaldo-inspired Inter Milan.) *I also have the honour of being the only manager to win the league & cup double in three different countries. *Taking over as England manager early in 2001 and playing my part when the national side’s fortunes so dramatically turned around with qualification for the 2002 World Cup including the famous 5-1 thrashing of Germany in Munich. *England achieved success through to the final stages of three consecutive major tournaments – the World Cup in South Korea and Japan in 2002, Euro 2004 in Portugal and World Cup 2006 in Germany – where we made to the quarter finals each time. In my time as England manager, the national side rose from 17th to 5th in the FIFA world rankings (with a highest place of No.4 in the world during the 2006 World Cup tournament) and while it is a matter of great disappointment not to reach an international tournament final, I have a little pride that we lost only five competitive games during my tenure. My name in Swedish is from "Sveinn" which means boy but maybe I will grow up one day? In the mean time I hope to have a little more fun within the game that I love.... You know I agreed to take over as head coach and manager of the England FC team in the hope that I may be able to improve the situation perhaps just a little. No one can take anything away from the heroes of the 1966 team and it is a very great honour for the FA to rank me as 2nd most successful England head coach after Sir Alf. My sole ambition was, of course, to get the England squad up to the standard of teamwork and consistant tactical quality so that we could convincingly QUALIFY for international tournaments and therefore have any chance of "bringing football home" to England. It is very hard to single out any individuals from the players who so loyally and valiantly followed the new strategies we put in place, but very quickly the England team began to win consistantly and every fan perhaps will remember the England 5 - Germany 1 away win in Munich? There were many ups and downs from the time I was hailed as a hero by the press to being hounded, tricked and insulted by some elements within the media to the point when I had finally had enough and was forced to quit under circumstances that many will remember. The significant out of court settlement from a newspaper involved is small consolation but I am, as always, looking to the future and not to the past. Still, I am proud of the record of David as a great Captain and the rest of each squad selected. After years "in the football wilderness" England achieved something of a record in being top in every international tournament qualifying group and that is much to the credit of everyone involved and in spite of the malice that was heaped upon us I think. After three consecutive top qualifying group places, I find it hard to believe that England did not feature in Euro 2008, but I can only hope that England manage to qualify and once again start to make progress during World Cup 2010. I wish Fabio Capello every success with his new position and can only hope that he does not suffer the same way so many England managers have with what has been called in the press "the poisoned chalice" that is the job of England FC head coach. The job is a dificult one and perhaps a little more good luck than I had and much more fairminded support from the media can make a difference? To TheFA and the majority of patriotic English football fans, fair minded football pundits and comentators who never failed to lift our spirits I say a very sincere thank you. Sann England anhängare veta vi gjorde den vår bäst och lite mer? To those elements of the media who did their best to destroy me and the team's spirit..... Du borde inte ta tillfredsställelse i förstöra din land sportsmannen. After departing from the England National management team, I continued to pursue a very wide range of football and charity interests around the world and have been very much involved with a number of soccer projects and junior soccer development schemes including schemes in Arab states and Africa as well as in the UK and Europe, but I was very pleased to resume a place within British Football at Premier league club level for the 2007/2008 season with the challenges and great pottential offered with my post at Manchester City Football Club. I have much appreciation for City fans support and their unstinting opposition to the decision to part company and continue to wish every success to the club for the future. I can only once again say thank you to all the fans who continue to ignore the distorted media hype from certain quarters, and have expressed their overwhelming appreciation and continued support both during my time as England head coach, at Eastlands and with the new challenges in Mexico with El Tri.Mexico 2 - Honduras 1IFK Göteborg 1979Svennis Cup 2003:THANK YOU MANCHESTER CITY FOOTBALL CLUB! PROBABLY SOME OF THE BEST FANS IN THE WORLD....Interview September 2008:

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Most of the senior people (and players of any note) within the world of football are already among my friends and acquaintances, but the most important people I would like to meet are even more of the wonderfull and loyal football fans and members of the general public in Britain and abroad, who have had only kind words and encouragement for David Beckham, Wayne, Michael, Peter and all the other targets for press hyperbole and moral busting bloodlust. All we did was the best we could for the country and especially for the fans who followed us from country to country and town to town. No one could possibly be more disappointed at not winning a trophy (or two?) along the way than the The FA management, coaching team and the brave players who fought on through thick and thin, injuries and insults. Kanske lejonen kanna bli ätet vid sjakal? I especially look forward to meeting more potential new players and candidates for our junior acadamy for the 2007/2008 football season at Eastlands!
