Mamadou Ndiaye Cissoko

A revelatory experience of true fusion

About Me

Kamben combines both the hottest new talent on the world music scene and two musical traditions that go back centuries. Based on a dialogue between virtuosos of two string traditions, Mamadou Cissoko on the Kora (West African harp) and violinist Max Baillie, this is where West African polyrhythm and Baroque basslines groove together in an original and uplifting way. Their music is a true meeting of cultures: old and new, traditional and modern. Completed by master bassist Pete Bernard (UK) and the fiery Mocolou Swane (Senegal) on percussion, the quartet delivers a set ranging from break-beat inspired African songs set to make you bop and Baroque standards like you have never heard them before, to serene African spirituals that send you floating home. This is quite simply chamber music at its best: improvisational flair, insatiable energy, and a profound musicality.
