About Me
I came to the US ( from Denmark ), in 1999, with about $1200 bucks in my pocket. I traveled by Greyhound bus from New York City to Chicago, then down south, hitting Memphis, Nashville, all the way to New Orleans, and then finally I ended up in Austin, TX. There I met bassist Roscoe Beck , who was very generous in giving me a place to stay until I decided to move to Dallas. Gigging & jamming in various blues clubs & honky tonks while working at a car wash quickly gave me a lesson in the hustle of living as a musician in the U.S. After about 6 months I'd had enough and moved on to Chicago. I lived at the Diplomat Hotel (weekly rates, 21 & over, ain't no joke) until I saved enough money to get my stuff together and move out. I lived in Chicago for about nine months, gigging 5 times weekly with JW Williams & the Chi Town Hustlers. While I lived there I became good friends with bass player Felton Crews , who toured worldwide with Miles Davis on the Warner Brothers Tutu Tour & has played with many greats from Ramsey Lewis to Charlie Musselwhite. I established contact with Felton through Roscoe Beck; Felton also got me the gig with JW. In Chicago I also had the honor of befriending guitar extraordinary, Ronnie Baker Brooks (son of Lonnie Brooks ); both musicians taught me a lot. After nine months, I moved to L.A. That was very difficult for me because the contact I was supposed to live with had his phone disconnected when I got there. It was a bad deal, and not having my own car didn't really help my situation. After nine months of being stuck in a way too expensive apartment, I moved to Portland, OR, to join R&B singer Curtis Salgado ; I got in contact with him through Bassist Felton Crews, from back in Chicago. Salgado is perhaps most known as the guy who inspired John Belushi to create the Blues Brothers with Dan Ackroyd when Belushi was in Eugene, Oregon, to film Animal House and caught Curtis’ act. In 1984 Salgado joined the Grammy Award-winning band Roomful of Blues, where he continued to sing lead and play harmonica for two years. There was even a stint as lead vocalist with Carlos Santana in 1995. It was Salgado who dubbed Albert Collins "the Master of the Telecaster". I played in the Curtis Salgado Band for about five years, touring all over the country, also in Canada & Germany. In the years I’ve spent so far in the US, I’ve had the honor of sharing the stage with some legendary musicians, including: Pinetop Perkins , Bob Margolin , Sam Myers , Derek O’ Brien , George Rains , Roy Rogers , Norton Buffalo , Greg Piccolo , Mark Kazanoff & The Texas Horns , Roscoe Beck , Derek Trucks , Lee Oskar , Janiva Magness , The Phantom Blues Band , Taj Mahal , Johnny Johnson , Robert Cray and Steve Miller .
