About Me

Ahh, the things people say about Telstar... powerful, kick-*ss, playful, slightly deranged, no bullshit, ... It is no coincidence that Telstar is a trio, the most essential and effective rock formation. Their songs sound powerful yet melodic, their feet are planted firmly in the here-and-now, their tips-of-the-hat veer from obscure bits of audiovisual history to rock music's golden moments. The Dutch and Belgian press does not seem to be able to pinpoint Telstar's myriad influences - the first album "#1" sparked a veritable avalanche of name-dropping: The Strokes, Iggy & the Stooges, The Velvet Underground, Elvis Costello, Big Star, The Clash, ... The singles, especially "I Cream" and "Good Together" (taken from the new 4 track EP), scorch the radio and TV waves. The video clips have popped up on JIM, TMF, MCM and even MTV. The Telstar attitute, part no-holds-barred-black-'n-white, part tongue-firmly-in-cheek, appears to hit a sweet spot in many people. The second album "too" has been released, providing a glimpse of the expanding Telstar universe. Driving guitars, eclectic organs, pounding drums, ... with a waltzy thing thrown in for good measure. The first single "Leave Me Alone" shows but one facet of the T sound: 3 guys, 3 chords, 3 minutes. The accompanying clip by moviemeister Mark Lagoon fits the song like a leather glove. But what's up with the nicknames? Suffice to say that Telstar did not get in the spotlight by overnight delivery: Louis, Henry & Simon Telstar learned their tricks of the trade in local hot bands such as Betty Goes Green, Red Zebra, The Wolf Banes & De Lama's... but that's another story. Their nicknames insured a clean and fresh coming-out-of-the-woods situation.
