The artist's capacity to create must exceed that of society's to destroy.

About Me

I am a writer, a poet, an entertainer, a father, a brother, a son and an uncle. I am a laugher, a hunter , a nurturer; a connoisseur, a lover. A soul just a hair's breadth from redemption, riding the ragged ether in lightning's wake, barely holding on, smiling confidently in the wind.
I am a human, being.
I host a music show Sunday mornings (featuring Gospel, hip-hop, R&B and neo-soul music) on www.killradio.org.
My first collection of poetry, In a Fever Delirium, is now available! Please email me for details!Dedication:
This goes out
to the well-deep voices
in the ether water and stone
to those unseen shamans
and ephemeral priestesses
who plunge black vinyl hands
into seven inch medicine bags
of obsidian whirlpool
flatbread communion
and the tang of legends on the tongue
the silver and sunflower scrawls
in African violet meadows
and half moon street maps
of blues blue avenues
of Dixieland jazz
ragtime rhythm
and cotton field spirituals
singing
gon' be free some day
To the diaspora
the truth spirit
and the blood of the struggle
in motor city star stamps
on our capital of soul
handclap echoes and
footstomp beats
harmonica hums and
trumpet bleats and
vertiginous spins
on felt steel frisbees
and Promethean percussion
slinging falsetto and baritone
proclamations amid
Baptist keening
quintet harmony
Lazarus bass lines and
oooooh baby baby
in staking it's claim
that a change is gonna come.
To the licorice vines and sapphire fangs
and newt's eyes and rabbit's feet
in patent leather
swirling
in its cauldron of cool stew
of chessboard linoleum
thousand eye oxfords
and peppermint twists
high kick swinging
in the bubbling brew
of Levis and satin
chocolate dipped in funk
sprinkled on
juke joint meat pies
glazed in Aqua Net
and served up hot
in a Philly bag of Rufus
puffing blow notes and draw notes
to keep it
just
so
...right.
This goes out to
the blind men who see
far more than me
and the root chakra holy man
with his smoke smooth prophecy
of let's get it on
to platform heels
diggin shag rug turf
twistin' the night away
to table cloths and napkins
strewn
over gauze and amber lampshades
to keep this slow groove
just
so
...tight.
This goes out
to black lights
and Black Moses
sandalwood, sage
daydreamin'
and I'm thinkin' of you
on the cloud nine of innocence
and the delicious maroon
from skin, teeth and suction
and girlfriends
and boyfriends
and going together
and sweet forever
phone calls
the pixie dust
of teenage love.
This goes out
to all y'all out there
in this ball of confusion
the lovers and mothers
the workers and dreamers
the husbands and doctors
the drummers and singers
the teachers and gardeners
sowing the seeds
of this new revolution
To Chuy from Monica
from Tony to Lisa
from Bob to Romeo
Callie to Jojo
James to Krystal
Motown to yo' town
Africa to America
My pain to your dance
my yearn to your burn
and
ma soul to your feet
This goes out
to the new true healin'
when you dig whatcha feelin'
and that's why I'm bringin'
this song to you
