Caroline!

I'm not pushing you away, baby! I'm just drawing me closer to myself.

About Me

I have a lot going on, that's fo' sho'. But it's exhilarating...exhausting...inspiring.
Even if half of the time I just want to cuddle up on the couch with ephemera or videotastic goodness.
My newest endeavor is The Teen Sensations: http://www.myspace.com/theteensensations
There is also Caroline Casey & the Stringslingers: http://www.myspace.com/carolinecasey
View Caroline Casey's EPK
And of course, most people know me as part of The Casey Sisters: http://www.myspace.com/caseysisters
And, occasionally, I take part in two other side projects:
Mystery V-- http://www.myspace.com/mysteryfive
The Dandy Lyons-- http://www.myspace.com/thedandylyons (with the illustrious Eddie Munoz of the Plimsouls, and other exciting artists!)
Other than that, I think the left column says more than enough about who I am...at least, until you know me better.
My idea of a perfect evening:
To anyone who doesn't know me before you write to me, please visit this website:

Thank you. And now, a PSA!

My Interests

Okay, get ready, 'cos this is LONG. But better that you have all the info now so I don't have to run down the list with you later. That can get a little tiring.
¡Viva la musica!
My music blog: http://pastdweller.blogspot.com/
I've done a bunch of European touring due to my bands being loved a lot more by wealthy Europeans than cheap-ass Texans (sorry, guys, but it's just true).
I have my own solo act with some fantastic players here in Austin right now. In my solo thing I like to do 60s and 70s heartbreakin', road-trippin' and just plain trucker country. Although to tell the truth, what sometimes surpasses even that is sitting on the floor of my place with my record player and a stack of 45s, 78s, and LPs of the below-mentioned genres.
Going to shows is yet another thing I enjoy--depending on the venue, of course. And my friends Laura, Jorie and I have the "Shim Shimmy Go Go Girls" act which is a guaranteed great time with small clothing, sequins, and fringes. We are happy to play birthdays, weddings, bar mitzvahs, and circumcisions.
I really love to talk about music and music collecting. But, fair warning: "talking about music" does not mean I will listen to, debate the validity, or utter the name of any of the following: Korn, Mitch Miller, Soulhat, Chumbawumba, Trace Adkins. This you must know about me before attempting any music discussion whatsover. Seriously.
Though I love a party as much as the next person, I'll make a smoothie or hit Town Lake several times a week. I'm an utter food geek who adores cooking and uses any opportunity possible to prepare something delicious for a wayward, hungry soul. Especially if they're buying the groceries. I also dig relaxing with books, magazines, or DVDs. Or relaxing on top of them, since I rarely have time to clean.I'm happy to listen to a mindblowing album while lying on the floor in the dark, provided it's not any of the above-mentioned.
Now--here's where I get all nerdy (wait! Like I wasn't nerdy before?). I am a documentary junkie, both written and filmed. I'm obsessed with sub-cultural movements and the direct effect they can have on nations and generations. I get ridiculously picky about spelling and grammar, and possess a propensity to overdo on puns, bad rhymes and bonus vocabulary words. I'm of an intellectual mind that exercises itself far less than it likes to tell people it does. Eventually I would like to turn my occasional writing pieces into books, with real live publishers and everything. Right now I'm working on research for a book I plan to write on extinct Texas juke joints.
I eventually plan to retire to a cabin or cottage, somewhere NOT here (with any luck, not even in the United States)...and I shall write for my crusty rustic bread (and water that I pulled from the spring over behind my house that doubles as a washroom). I'm getting old these days and sometimes one just wants goats, y'know?
But for now, I LIKE TO ROCK! Heh.

I'd like to meet:

People who can:Listen to a good record. Read a good book. Remind me to watch my mouth. Rock me like a hurricane. Crack me up. Watch a bad movie. Smile. Watch a good movie. Explore broken down pieces of the past on a dusty Texas back road. Teach me how to whistle. Come camping, swimming, and hiking with me. Use a complete sentence. Appreciate irony. Appreciate the irony of the previous two sentences. Inspire me. Appreciate the value of mental and physical health. Cook. Eat my cooking. Spell.
Oh, and I'd love to meet THIS guy:
And if I don't already know you or have at least met you in some form, please don't be offended if I don't add you when you request it. If you ARE offended, that's probably why I didn't add you.
I also have a more private blog that I keep on a different site. If you want to know about it, just ask me.
People I think are hot: Steve Buscemi, John C. Reilly, Vincent Gallo, James McAvoy, Callum Blue, Ira Glass, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Ewan McGregor. I was hot for Russell Crowe for years after Romper Stomper, right up until I heard his band. It's amazing how fast that love left me. Overall I'd pretty much shack up for eternity with a real-life version of Steve Buscemi's character in Ghost World. Awww, yeah.

I live it.

Oh, lordie:
On the player at any given time:
Elmore James, Desmond Dekker, High Noon, Wynn Stewart, Roger Clyne, Murder City Devils, Yardbirds, Godspeed y.b.e, Bill Haley, DB Harris, Loretta Lynn, Tom Waits, Ma Rainey, the Sonics, the Davis Sisters, Chili Cold Blood, Riverboat Gamblers, The Woggles, Barbara Lynn, Peter & Gordon, the Flamingos, Faron Young, Detroit Cobras, Reigning Sound, Cinderella, Roscoe Gordon, Louis Armstrong, The Priests, Willie Dixon/Big Three Trio, the Miller Sisters, Faster Pussycat, Cats and the Fiddle, High Dials, Ramones, Vic Damone, Nic Armstrong/IV Thieves, Ignacio Peneiro, Hank Ballard, Perez Prado, Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers, Goree Carter, Everly Brothers, Howlin' Wolf, Onie Wheeler, Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Mabel Scott, Sugarpie DeSanto, the Danleers, Gino Washington, Johnny Paycheck, Oscar McLollie, Smith's Ranch Boys, Melvin Endsley, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Klaus Nomi, Tommy Duncan, the McKinney Sisters, Brothers and Sisters, Bob Wills, Kinks/Ray Davies, Brian Auger and the Trinity, Julie Driscoll, The Everly Brothers, Brennen Leigh, The Eels, Soko, The Mystery V, The Mullens, Sons of Hercules, the Eccentrics, the Primitives, Toots and the Maytals, the Ugly Beats, McLemore Avenue, the Omens, Don Cavalli, Ray Price.
Word of warning...if you ever, EVER play Bad Company's "Feel Like Makin' Love" for me, I'll punch you in the neck.
As far as what's up with my musical projects, I am definitely concentrating on the 60s band. I have a record for Caroline Casey & the Stringslingers, coming out on the Spanish El Toro label early in 2008. That's going to be some serious 60s country fun! For that act, I'm also traveling to southern France next July to do a show at the Mirande Country Music festival. That's going to be insane, what with 16,000 people in attendance and a band of merry rowdy rogues from Austin all making appearances there.
